Did anyone watch W Five last evening? - "Cruising for Trouble"

Not to scare anyone from cruising - just good information for everyone.

Saw this show awhile back..have done many cruises with my 2 daughters and have never had one moments worry. Common sense prevails of course..but there are many scenarios out there in every day life where it must as well.

Saw this a while ago too - common sense is what one needs to keep their kids safe on any vacation!!
Didn't scare us away from cruising and we would/will do it again. It's all about teaching your kids about safe vacationing anywhere you go!

I also saw this show. It was quite interesting. I've been a long time cruiser with many breaks in between, but still love it.
One does have to be careful. On my first cruise, on Princess when I was 12 in 1972 (and we were all much more innocent then), an officer (?) asked me if I wanted to see the bridge. Being in a uniform etc, I felt safe and went to see it. We were in port or something since noone was around. He did grab me, french-kiss me (ewwww) but i got away and ran back to my room. Honestly, I was scared, but never said anything about it and it hasn't seemed to haunt me in any way. (thank goodness) ( I know.. I should have told my parents but was scared and shocked)

Fast forward to my 20's going on a Carnival cruise with a gf. One night after dinner I came back to our room find the waiter in bed with my friend. Awkward...... we laughed about it , he left and that was that. Although lots of officers were hitting on the girls to go back to their rooms etc.

These days I'm much older, wiser and enjoy Alaskan Cruises, etc.
We have a very nice time. I always remember though to stay street smart.



And so far I have had a very nice time!

That's scary indeed..and totally not acceptable.

But really-those kind of situations can happen anywhere. A Resort, Hotel even the local Bar can be a catalyst for someone trying 'something'.

I think if I recall much of the message in the show was that Cruise lines 'don't care and often cover up' these incidents. I think that that can be said of most major companies that rely on good PR..they don't want unfavourable news to come to light, Disney is no better.

Having cruised as much as I have I can say I also see many many folks polluted out of their minds and wonder how MORE things don't happen. Last cruise I watched a young lady wandering the deck and she swayed from side to side to side...we remarked how it is amazing that some people don't just topple over..and some do. We helped her at least inside but she was heading for the nightclub. Behaviour such as that can all too often lead to nothing good!

I agree, common sense is needed with any vacation.

Since I travel alone with my son, I plan on sticking with Disney cruise.
It's not a "party ship" and most people retire fairly early. ( I do!)
Lots of families - wonderful atmosphere.

We've done Carnival 2X now and there are alot of families on there too (good kids program also!!)
These things can happen on Disney ships also. We never had an issue on Carnival - you could tell who the 'carnival drunks' were (as my 8yo called them) and we went on March break this year and I think there were more families then there were young single adults.

These things can happen anywhere!

Common sense needs to prevail. I am always shocked when I see the countless young children running around the halls at 11pm at night without any parents around. People need to understand that a cruise ship is like a small city with people from all walks of life...
