Canadian Buffoon's Semi-EPIC Vacation - 10/29 - Link to new TR!

Good for her. I can totally see my Allie doing that someday, as well. She loves dance :goodvibes
Elle started with assisting
other teachers.
Then one day she saw that
the city was looking for teachers

for their little ones programs and...
That's not bad at all! I was thinking it would be more like 12 hours :rotfl:
If you drive 12 hours,
your car better be waterproof.

I think you're right...Nicholas got that same thing last year ::yes::
Yay me! I got it right!
This is a first!!!!

Very much :goodvibes
:goodvibes
Looking forward to it!
Coming up in the not
too distant future. :)

Caught up!
Prove it!!
Unfortunately (for many reasons), I’m waiting for my flu shot with roughly 100 of my now closest pals so my phone doesn’t want to quote, so I’ll try to go from memory.
Hah! A likely excuse!

How's the new job coming along? :)
Yay! So happy you finally got down to the Keys.
Me too! It was great!!!
Sorry you weren’t wowed by Key West though.
Unfortunately, no.
But...

The Keys are a family favorite of ours and I grew up on Jimmy Buffett, the assumed god of the Keys
Yes, I knew that about you.
(that you grew up on Buffett)

Anyway, we’ve always had a great time in Key West, but we spend lots of time in Old Town. Did you get there?
But...
I don't really know.

I didn't have a lot of time,
so drove down,
Walked along Duval St.,
ate, left.

Admittedly I didn't give
it a thorough going over.

Guess I'll have to go back!
Happy you got some Key Lime pie at long last.
::yes::
In high school, my sisters and I created a presentation to convince my parents to move us to Islamorada. It wasn’t successful.

I can just hear that...
Tracy and Sister: "So it would be good because....."
Parents: "Uh, huh. Right. Yup. Makes sense. Good point..."
T&S: "So can we go?"

Parents: "No."
Ugh, end of trips are hard enough! Why do they always have to harass you about being constipated?! (Eye roll... cause apparently my ability to use emojis went the way of my ability to quote...)
Right?
I mean... leave me and my
bodily functions alone!
Looking forward to the link to the latest TR! As always, it’s an absolute pleasure reading. Please never stop! (*Hugs*... cause, you know, no emoji inserting...)
Thanks, Tracy!

It's the spinning that
gets me on MS.

Ahhhh, I can see that. Small spoiler alert for the upcoming TR, I got Fran to go on SDD this trip and it did her in, evidently what gets her is the banked turns and the G forces when you go around those sideways sort of spirals.

I'll get to your TRs...
but it's gonna be a while.

I'm not sure if you got to mine, but you've gotten in three updates since I've had a chance to get back here, so I think you're moving at a pretty good pace.

Our second day at Universal Orlando
started with the alarm waking us
at seven a.m.

Really... shouldn't vacations be more...
restful?

Yes, they should be! :rolleyes1

You get checked when you
get to the dock
(complete with metal detector
and x-ray scanner)
and once through, you're
good to go in either park
or CityWalk.

That's how they do it at Disneyland now. You're checked all the way through DTD and from the Grand and the Harbor side of the street.

Another view, with Sapphire Falls
resort in the background, as we
pulled away from the dock.

It's amazing how clearly you see things when you're looking from a computer screen and not a tiny little phone.

Never pass up a chance to mock
your children.
It builds character and a looming
sense of resentment.

Huh. My parents never did that to me. I don't think. :scratchin

Doesn't the Sorting Hat look
particularly peeved?
Perhaps you would too if your
entire existence was to sit on
the smelly, sweaty, pimple-laden
heads of pre-pubescent children?

Ewwww. I never thought of it that way.

The ride does afford you with
a wonderful view of Hogwarts.
That alone makes the ride
worth trying at least once.

Especially if you have hallucinations while on the ride.

First up...
"You're a sick park"
(The J is pronounced "Y", you know.
It's German.)

Oh, is that how it goes. Funny I speak some German and never knew that.

It's definitely not for the
faint of heart!
And... word of warning.
We rode it once while
seated at or near the
very front.
We loved it!
So we rode it again
and were seated at the back.
It was much rougher and
we came off the ride feeling
not overly great.

I'll keep that in mind. I love RnRC but the back of the ride gave me whiplash.

As we made our way to the train,
a father with wife and two girls
in tow asked.
"Do you need a ticket?"

Dude... this may be the most
expensive ride ticket you ever buy.

::yes:: seriously. It's a fun ride, but I don't think I need to spend that much to ride that ride again.

(For all of you lamenting
my lack of a shot of the
dragon breathing fire in
the previous update.
So there.)

Good for you, but then you knew you had that one waiting when you told us you didn't! :snooty:

Our last dinner on property
was at Vivo, an Italian restaurant.
I'd classify it as mid-scale.

Huh. Never heard of that one. Then again, I'm not really up on restaurants at Uni.

And...
Did you see it in this chapter?
See them both?

Yes, I did! And now I'm going to go on to the next page and make one big huge large quote so that I don't risk seeing the posts out of order!

I got home and had to freaking
shovel my driveway to get up it!
Shovel!
In early October!

Not cool Mother Nature!!!!

All that came down over the course of one movie?????????

Who wants to go home
after a Disney vacation?

It depends on how long I've been there..... :rolleyes1

Remember a couple updates back
and the oh-so-fun phone call
to National Car Rental?

Nope. Completely forgot about it until you brought it back up.

Unfortunately for her, I finally found
some free spots on the roof of
the parkade.

I spotted this from on high:

Yup. And I spotted it too! :thumbsup2

I walked Elle through the process
of obtaining her luggage tag
and checking her bag.
And took her as far as I could
to the beginning of security.

Was this just to be nice or had she never been on a flight on her own? I think by this point in my life, I was already flying on my own, ordering drinks and other such adult stuff.

But... I already missed my travel buddy.
Elle was a lot of fun to be with
and we never once had any issues
about... anything.

That's nice, different than Kay I guess..... :rolleyes1

I had always wanted to drive
the length of the Florida Keys.

I'd never even known about this until a couple years ago. Fran wants to visit Mel Fischer's museum.

Luckily, while I did see some ominous
looking clouds off to the East,
(I think it was East? Pretty sure by
then I was heading South...)
I never did see any tornados.

Yikes! I always tell these people that they can have their Hurricanes and Tornadoes, I'll take an Earthquake any day!

Not because of rain...
Because of Love Bugs.
I believe this May was
one of the worst ever
infestations of Love Bugs
in the last decade.

Yuk. Just gross. They were sort of bad when I was there, but nothing like what I heard May was like.

When I'd stop for gas,
I had to clean off the
front of the car.
The car's nose was
plastered with dead bugs.
If you didn't look at the
rest of the car, you'd swear
that the car was black.

Yeah, that's just disgusting!

I ordered, but pretty sure it was
Churrasco Skewers (A la plancha
(what the heck does that mean??)
Angus Churrasco steak, chimi aioli
with a side of Chipotle Mac n cheese.

A la plancha = on the griddle. You can thank me now. Unless one of your other readers beat me to it. I'm going one page at a time.

Inside... nothing but ice cream
as far as the eye can see!

Yum!

Robbie's is a mish-mash collection
of huts, trailers and cabins that
are described as:
"Waterfront restaurant, Tarpon Feeding,
Partyboat and Charter Fishing,
Snorkeling, Parasailing,
Sunset Cruises, Boat Rentals,
Jet-ski Adventures and Kayak tours."

Sounds interesting!

and the occasional jelly fish
floating placidly by.

OK. That might freak me out a little bit.

A picturesque white sand
beach framed by the remnants
of the original Keys highway.

That highway looks strangely.....unsafe....

Except it's
over-commercialized
and over-touristy.

And totally expected. I found Waikiki the same way.

The salad was delicious, but the pasta!
Wow! As much as I was "meh" about
the pasta Bolognese I had at Vivo,
this pasta was one of the best I've had.
Dee-lish!

Good to know! I could even see real tomatoes in that sauce.

I wandered around a bit more,
taking in the sights of some
pretty ships...

More expansion of the fleet, and yes I see the other.

It was May, 2019.
The last time I'd tasted
a potato chip was
in November of 2015.

That's just crazy talk. Why?

In case you didn't see them
in the last chapter:

Yes. I saw them both, but only counted them as one.

Oh... did you think
I was talking about this?

Well I thought that was the second one.

And...
Did you see it in this chapter?
See them both ?
Did you see all three?

I thought they were only two, but went back and saw the other component of the second one.

OK, I'm going to have to call it a day here. There is a certain Tiki Bar with a certain Hat Box mug which Fran is insisting that we visit to get more of them, so I'll get to the next update at a later date.

Ahhhh, I can see that. Small spoiler alert for the upcoming TR, I got Fran to go on SDD this trip and it did her in, evidently what gets her is the banked turns and the G forces when you go around those sideways sort of spirals.
Oh, no. And that's a tame one too. :(
I'm not sure if you got to mine, but you've gotten in three updates since I've had a chance to get back here, so I think you're moving at a pretty good pace.
I should be all caught up on everybody's now.
Yes, they should be! :rolleyes1
But they never are!!!

Yes, that's right!
It's amazing how clearly you see things when you're looking from a computer screen and not a tiny little phone.
::yes::
Huh. My parents never did that to me. I don't think. :scratchin
You were too young to remember.
Ewwww. I never thought of it that way.
Especially if you have hallucinations while on the ride.
Seeing things, Alison?
Oh, is that how it goes. Funny I speak some German and never knew that.
Ja.
I'll keep that in mind. I love RnRC but the back of the ride gave me whiplash.
This was way more intense.
::yes:: seriously. It's a fun ride, but I don't think I need to spend that much to ride that ride again.
I might not either, if and when.
Good for you, but then you knew you had that one waiting when you told us you didn't! :snooty:
Actually no!
I hadn't edited those photos
and had forgotten about it.
Huh. Never heard of that one. Then again, I'm not really up on restaurants at Uni.
It's... middle of the road?
All that came down over the course of one movie?????????
Not quite.
It had started before that.
It just... kept coming.
Knocked power out for
thousands of people
around the province.

Some for over a week.
It depends on how long I've been there..... :rolleyes1
Well... I guess so.
I wouldn't know. :)

Yup. And I spotted it too! :thumbsup2
;)
Was this just to be nice or had she never been on a flight on her own? I think by this point in my life, I was already flying on my own, ordering drinks and other such adult stuff.
To be nice, I guess.
She's flown alone when
she was 16... and will again

next month.
That's nice, different than Kay I guess..... :rolleyes1
Not really. Well... yes, they're very
different, but they both are
pretty good travel buddies. :)
I'd never even known about this until a couple years ago. Fran wants to visit Mel Fischer's museum.
Oh! I didn't even know
there was one!
Shoot! That'd be so cool!!!
Now I have another reason

to go back again.
Yikes! I always tell these people that they can have their Hurricanes and Tornadoes, I'll take an Earthquake any day!
<shiver>
I is afeared of 'quakes.
We don't have any here.
Yeah, that's just disgusting!
It was worse than
you can imagine.

A la plancha = on the griddle. You can thank me now. Unless one of your other readers beat me to it. I'm going one page at a time.
Someone sorta did.
I think the word they used
was metal, not griddle.

so... thanks! :)
OK. That might freak me out a little bit.
Nah. Tiny. Size of the palm
of your hand.

That highway looks strangely.....unsafe....
And totally expected. I found Waikiki the same way.
My parents went to Hawaii...
and never left Honolulu.
My Dad says he didn't like Hawaii.

I told him he hasn't seen it yet!
More expansion of the fleet, and yes I see the other.
;)
That's just crazy talk. Why?
Kay and I had a bet that we
could go without for a year.
She lasted 2 months.
I made it the year and...
just thought I'd see how long
I could keep going.

I did until I got tired of it.
OK, I'm going to have to call it a day here. There is a certain Tiki Bar with a certain Hat Box mug which Fran is insisting that we visit to get more of them, so I'll get to the next update at a later date.
I'll be here. :)

I think a lot of people have that
as a dream of theirs.

Try to make it a reality.

I'm working on it, hoping it to be a 10 year goal but we shall see!

You've been?

My dad once had a load down to keywest. Can't remember what it was but I remember driving down.

Well... a bit of both?
They were reef sharks,
which means they could bite.
But not very big... maybe...

two or three feet long?

Well, that seems mostly safe! If you're going to get bitten by a shark, better to be a small one.

Uh, huh.
See all three?

I saw two for sure, I will have to scour for a third.

I know. And I can prove it.
Try going without for about
three and a half years!

Is this intentional to put this kind of suffering on yourself.

Holy crap was that good!
I mean... deep fried, banana
stuffed sourdough, dusted
with cinnamon sugar???

GAHH...Every single time I see a picture of Tonga Toast...I drool...It sounds and looks so delicious.

Coming up... Stay tuned for
a link to a brand spanking
shiny new TR!

I've made it through another TR, wooohoooo can't wait for the next one.

IMG_2321c_zps2yvxi4uo.jpg

I missed Marvin on this one :( I'm disappointed in myself.

I'm working on it, hoping it to be a 10 year goal but we shall see!
If you do, you have to invite
us all for a tour.

My dad once had a load down to keywest. Can't remember what it was but I remember driving down.
Huh. How old were you then?
Well, that seems mostly safe! If you're going to get bitten by a shark, better to be a small one.
Well... being in the kayak
and not in the water helped, too.

Is this intentional to put this kind of suffering on yourself.
Intentional.
Stupid...
But intentional.
GAHH...Every single time I see a picture of Tonga Toast...I drool...It sounds and looks so delicious.
It's definitely drool-worthy.
I've made it through another TR, wooohoooo can't wait for the next one.
Thanks for reading and sticking
around through it!

The next one should be
started fairly soon.
Already have the first couple

days' photos loaded.
I missed Marvin on this one :( I'm disappointed in myself.
That one was a tough one. :)

And I started it out by
doing something I'd wanted
to do, or rather trying something
I'd wanted to try for a long time.

You musta got up real early to get there in time for breakfast!

I had heard, for years,
about the Tonga toast.
Today was the day I was
finally gonna try it.

I've been debating about trying it or not. I'm not a huge banana fan, but it does sound kinda good.

I mean... deep fried, banana
stuffed sourdough, dusted
with cinnamon sugar???

I'm kinda on the fence....

I popped into the butterfly
garden where people were
being swarmed by flying
insects looking for the blood of...

See????? That's what I'm afraid of!

From the Honey Bee-stro,
Local Wildflower Honey-mascarpone Cheesecake
with Orange Blossom Honey Ice Cream garnished
with Fennel Pollen Meringue Kisses and
Petite Lavender Shoots.
(Thank goodness for Google.)

Yup. That was it alright.

The lobster was superb, while
the cake was forgettable.

I think I would agree with that statement.

and the Beef Tenderloin Tips.

IMG_2359_zpsdwcubeva.jpg

Interesting, mine looked like this. Doesn't even look like the same dish!

And with that, my trip was
essentially over.

Boo hoo.

Then again... there probably
wasn't a place on Earth
that was anywhere near as
hot as it was that May
in Florida.

And two days ago Anaheim was the hottest city in all of America, with Long Beach in a tie for third (only two degrees lower)

So I thank you all for coming along
on my journeys from the bottom
of my heart.

You are very welcome!

Coming up... Stay tuned for
a link to a brand spanking
shiny new TR!

Yay! Looking forward to it!

I should be all caught up on everybody's now.

I'm getting there. I think I have five left.

It's... middle of the road?

Is it at City Walk or in a hotel?

<shiver>
I is afeared of 'quakes.
We don't have any here.

They're not so bad, unless you happen to be in a big one. Then they really suck, but if you're far away or it's just a little one, they are kind of fun.

Someone sorta did.
I think the word they used
was metal, not griddle.

so... thanks! :)

Yes, when I looked it up, it did say metal, but they implied metal griddle, so I guess you couldn't use a non-stick pan and call it "a la plancha." Besides you get a better sear on a stainless steel pan.

If you do, you have to invite
us all for a tour.

ALL OF YOU....hmmm we can arrange this.

Huh. How old were you then?

I would have probably been 13? give or take

Well... being in the kayak
and not in the water helped, too.

I've seen Free Willy, things can jump out of the water.

Intentional.
Stupid...
But intentional.

I mean, they aren't great for your ateries or waistline, so probably not a bad decision.

It's definitely drool-worthy.

I'm still drooling, there is a puddle at my desk.

Thanks for reading and sticking
around through it!

Always, I love your balance of photos and witty commentary.

That one was a tough one. :)

It was, I should have got it though, I mean I had my glasses on.

You musta got up real early to get there in time for breakfast!
I really don't remember.
I think I was there
mid-morning? :confused3
I've been debating about trying it or not. I'm not a huge banana fan, but it does sound kinda good.
Try it, then you'll know.
I didn't find it overly...
banana-y.
See????? That's what I'm afraid of!
You know I put that in
there just for you, right?

Yup. That was it alright.
Thanks. :)
Interesting, mine looked like this. Doesn't even look like the same dish!
That's totally different!
What the heck!

Oh... But then I went back
just a few months later.

Darned AP.
And two days ago Anaheim was the hottest city in all of America, with Long Beach in a tie for third (only two degrees lower)
Really!
I wouldn't have thought
you'd get that with being

so close to the ocean.
You are very welcome!
:goodvibes
Yay! Looking forward to it!
Soon!
I'm getting there. I think I have five left.
It's a process, isn't it?
Is it at City Walk or in a hotel?
Right in the middle of City Walk.
They're not so bad, unless you happen to be in a big one. Then they really suck, but if you're far away or it's just a little one, they are kind of fun.
I'd be looking around,
wondering why everyone
wasn't running for cover.
Yes, when I looked it up, it did say metal, but they implied metal griddle, so I guess you couldn't use a non-stick pan and call it "a la plancha." Besides you get a better sear on a stainless steel pan.
::yes::

ALL OF YOU....hmmm we can arrange this.
Yussss!
I would have probably been 13? give or take
Ah. So old enough to remember
and know where you were.

I've seen Free Willy, things can jump out of the water.
You have a paddle to
smack 'em back in.

I mean, they aren't great for your ateries or waistline, so probably not a bad decision.
That did play a pretty
big part in why I wasn't
in a rush to start up again.
I'm still drooling, there is a puddle at my desk.
Good thing it isn't on
your keyboard.
Because otherwise
you'd have written:

"I'm still drookng/ thrs a pzztt…"
Always, I love your balance of photos and witty commentary.
:) Thanks!
It was, I should have got it though, I mean I had my glasses on.
In that case...
What the heck, dude!

I want to try this too. I've had lunch and dinner at Kona's but haven't made it to breakfast yet.

These are all outstanding! I tried to get some good ones on our trip in 2017 but my trip mates did not have the patience.

IMG_2357_zpsqp487fso.jpg

Yeah, um... no idea
what this was.

It looks so pretty!

I did, though, remember what
this was:

IMG_2358_zpscpyvr9fx.jpg

I want that lobster tail! I'm hoping to get a quick trip during Flower & Garden to visit with Danielle and eat this.

The lobster was superb, while
the cake was forgettable.

Noted: eat lobster not cake.

I dropped the car off back
at MCO, made it through
security without any issues,
Breezed through customs
without any problems.

I'm so glad things went so well. I keep remembering the trouble you just had getting down there.

Thanks for reading along, everyone!
I hope you enjoyed reading it
as much as I enjoyed having you
all along for the ride.

Thank you for sharing your trip. You're such an entertaining writer.

Coming up... Stay tuned for
a link to a brand spanking
shiny new TR!

Oh boy a new report!:surfweb:

Time to put this puppy to bed.
Woo h....

I mean darn.

And I started it out by
doing something I'd wanted
to do, or rather trying something
I'd wanted to try for a long time.
Wear your underwear inside out and backwards?

No, I didn't stay there,
but I did eat there. :)
Oh, that.

I had heard, for years,
about the Tonga toast.
Today was the day I was
finally gonna try it.
I've never tried this. While I like bananas and like banana nut bread, the idea of putting bananas in french toast never appealed to me. May have to try it though and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. Love cinnamon, so putting cinnamon on it is kinda like bacon...makes everything better (except maybe steak...don't want cinnamon on my steak)

Holy crap was that good!
I mean... deep fried, banana
stuffed sourdough, dusted
with cinnamon sugar???
Okay, you're starting to convince me.

I didn't have many
plans for today...
okay, I had pretty much
no plans for the day...
So I took things pretty slow.
Those are the good days. There are times I think I'll just pop over to Disney today and then decide nah, I'm just gonna relax today and do NOTHING.

I popped into the butterfly
garden
Some great shots you got there!

I don't wanna take
any more notes any more
than I wanna go home!
But you must go home and work insane hours to afford the next adventure. It sucks for all of us (well maybe not the insane hours part), but one must work to be able to play.

Local Wildflower Honey-mascarpone Cheesecake
with Orange Blossom Honey Ice Cream garnished
with Fennel Pollen Meringue Kisses and
Petite Lavender Shoots.
Okay, it SOUNDS good, but I'm a bit of a cheesecake snob and the two I tried at Disney left me very much in the meh column.

(I'd previously had the non-alcoholic
version. I'm bucking the trend, though.
Everyone else seems to prefer the wine
one, but I preferred the other one.)
I prefer the non-rum dole whip as well, so I'd probably like this better without the wine also.

Maple Popcorn Shake
Ewwww! I mean I love maple and popcorn, but in a shake? Yuck! Actually, I tried the maple popcorn from Canada cart and thought I was going to love it and maybe I got a bad batch, but I was less than thrilled.

The shake was good and the
beef was fine.
I'd have either again, but I
don't need to rush out for either.
So what flavor or flavour was the shake? Was it maple also or just vanilla? If it was maple, I can imagine enjoying that.

And with that, my trip was
essentially over.

I am NOT constipated!!!...
Uh huh, sure. We've heard that before!

Then again... there probably
wasn't a place on Earth
that was anywhere near as
hot as it was that May
in Florida.
Death Valley?
Sahara desert?
Etheopia?
Ecuador
I'm sure parts of Australia, but not in May, since that's fall/winter for them.

Without your comments,
encouragements and occasional
put-downs (you know who you are)
I would nev....

Okay, fine, I might put you down, but as we've discussed and you know, it's all in good fun. I enjoy our banter and have enjoyed getting to meet and know you better.

It's the only reason I was there.
I never do breakfasts at Disney.

These are all outstanding! I tried to get some good ones on our trip in 2017 but my trip mates did not have the patience.
Put on that bada$$ expression
and they'll wait!

It looks so pretty!
But how did it taste?
I have no idea!

It obviously wasn't bad...

and neither was it the best ever.
I want that lobster tail! I'm hoping to get a quick trip during Flower & Garden to visit with Danielle and eat this.
I really liked it!
So did Elle!

Noted: eat lobster not cake.
You can eat the cake...
but the lobster is the star.

I'm so glad things went so well. I keep remembering the trouble you just had getting down there.
Writing about that soon. :)
Thank you for sharing your trip. You're such an entertaining writer.
Awwww.... Thanks, Vanessa! :goodvibes
Oh boy a new report!:surfweb:

Soon!

Woo h....

I mean darn.
:p
Mark beat you to that.
Wear your underwear inside out and backwards?
No, I said something I
hadn't done before.

I bet cinnamon on steak
could actually work.

No. Seriously.

Like in a marinade.
Okay, you're starting to convince me.
Well, that was easy.

Send me money.
Those are the good days. There are times I think I'll just pop over to Disney today and then decide nah, I'm just gonna relax today and do NOTHING.
::yes:: Love those days.

Only problem is...

they're so darned rare!
Some great shots you got there!
Thanks! :)
But you must go home and work insane hours to afford the next adventure.
Oh, yeah. That.
It sucks for all of us (well maybe not the insane hours part), but one must work to be able to play.
I can't wait for retirement...
Okay, it SOUNDS good, but I'm a bit of a cheesecake snob and the two I tried at Disney left me very much in the meh column.
Can honestly say that your
cheesecake was better than

Oh, the popcorn was just

Maybe maple? Probably?
