Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

A few of you were foolish enough to ask me
to write about Ruby's and my quick trip to Montreal.

Aw, come on! Now who went and did that?

Redundancy is my middle name.
So is redundancy.

Do you work for the Department of Redundancy Department?

Ruby hates travelling alone.
So she usually asks me to go with her.
And I am usually more than happy to oblige.
It's pretty much a win, win, win, win situation.
Win #1. We get to travel to places for
1/2 the airfare and no cost accommodation.
Win #2. I go, so she's happy.
Win #3. She works during the day,
so I do whatever I want.
Win #4. After work, we do whatever she wants.

Makes sense to me. What's not to like?

I didn't know it at the time,
but there was a big fringe benefit to that.

Well, sure. You and the wife traveling alone, no one to bother you...

A chance to get some sleep!

Fair warning!
I didn't take any notes this time.
I wasn't sure if I was even going to write this
and I just didn't feel like it.
So be prepared for a certain.... sparseness
with the details.

No problem! I never take notes. You can always just make the details up later.

Oh... wait....
Sorry.
Like I said.
I didn't take notes.
That didn't actually happen, now that I think of it.

See? Makes it entertaining.

You know. I could never work airport security.
At least not the person who looks at the X-rays.
There's no way I could keep my mouth shut.

"I read that book. It's really good!
Who'd have guessed the butler did it?!?"

"Is there a reason you have fur covered handcuffs ma'am?"

"Do stool softeners really work?"

"How much does a whip like that cost?"

"Good luck with those hemorrhoids!"

:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

I find the restroom and ...
there's a wait?
What?
I'm a dude.
I don't wait for restrooms!

Darn right!

That may not have been the right picture.
Or it might have.
Who knows.
No notes.

Ah, taking the sea route across Canada. Gutsy.

But just once... Once!
I'd like my bag to be first.
I would grab it and smugly look at everyone else
with their vaguely panicked expressions
("Did my bag make it???")
as I march off in triumph.

You know you want to do that.
Yes. Yes you do.

::yes::

Oh. And everything is in French.
By law.
So there's that, too.

They're not catering to me?? Forget it, I'm not going.

Finding Doris???? :lmao:
(With the voice of Anne Dorval!! (who?))

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Sooooo good.
And good for you!
It's got something from each of
the four food groups.
Fries, gravy, cheese curds and a wiener.
What more could you possibly want???

Sounds like a winner! The perfect meal!

Except--no bacon.:sad1:

One odd note about my drink.
I went to take a sip from the straw...
it's not a straw.
It's a long toothpick or skewer.
Nothing on it. Just a stick.
Odd drink décor.

Maybe it's a state fair item. Cocktail on a stick.

We only got about half way through it.
Boring!
I guess that explains all the nominations.

Pretty much. And yet Die Hard was completely ignored.:sad2:

"Well, how about a trip to Disney? Just for a few days?
We could check out Universal too. Maybe drive down to the Keys?"

She answers. "Well, you keep coming with me for work..."

Okay...

"So I guess I can go to Disney with you."

party::woohoo::cool1::cheer2::banana:

Me: "There's a Disney 3 day cruise that leaves on the 16th.
It might be a good way to try it out. See if we like it."

She thought that was a good idea.

So we've gone from zero to HOLY CRAP in 24 hours.

:eek::eek::eek:

Take this and run with it! Don't look back!

IMG_1512_zpsqaaev0nu.jpg

We have just met you and we love you.

Haven't read any comments yet.
Just got caught up everywhere else first.
Back in a bit!

I just have to thank you for keeping me occupied during work for the past week!

Caitlin!!!

First of all.... :welcome: to the TR!
My goodness! I didn't know you were still perusing the boards!
So pleased you popped in!

I caught up on your TR and I am excited to hear you are coming back to Disney! If you spend any days at the World before your cruise we will have to meet up!

Yes! It's starting to look more and more likely
that if we can come, the 17th is a "meet" day.
I'll PM you or FB you with details, if and when?

What an epic DISmeet! I wish I was going to be at Epcot on 17/09/16. Probably next year though.

::yes::
I'm hoping this can happen.
Still waiting on one niggling detail
before I pull the trigger.
I should know by Sunday, I think.

Sorry I haven't been around. Our oldest, Jack, got an pneumonia and was in the hospital and then we travelled for the holiday. It was a hard two weeks.

Oh, no! Is he okay now?

I'm here now and boy oh boy I have missed so much!

So the lesson is... don't go on holidays?
Seems legit.

I'm so excited for your next Disney trip. It's funny how we've been planning and anticipating our next Disney trip for 2 1/2 years and you can just throw an idea out there and BAM it sticks and you're going. I love that spontaneity.

 This is new to us, actually.
It was usually the norm to plan well in advance.
Lately, though....

It's too bad you're not going in November.

Yeah, there are people going at different times that I'd love to meet.
Tell you what...
Anyone who wants to meet me in WDW, just pay all my expenses
and I'll see what I can do!

No?

Hello?

Anyone???

Can't wait to read more about Montreal!

Probably start the next chapter tonight.

Aw, come on! Now who went and did that?

No one sane, certainly.

Do you work for the Department of Redundancy Department?

Not anymore. There was a conflict of interest
and there were policies that conflicted
with my personal interests.

Well, sure. You and the wife traveling alone, no one to bother you...

A chance to get some sleep!

To sleep, perchance.... well, I'm getting ahead of myself here.

No problem! I never take notes. You can always just make the details up later.

I would never do that!

See? Makes it entertaining.

Well..... maybe once.

Ah, taking the sea route across Canada. Gutsy.

And moist.

They're not catering to me?? Forget it, I'm not going.

But they have poutine.

Sounds like a winner! The perfect meal!

Except--no bacon.:sad1:

I would be willing to bet that you could get it with bacon.

Maybe it's a state fair item. Cocktail on a stick.

I tried lifting it by the stick...
Didn't work out well.

Pretty much. And yet Die Hard was completely ignored.:sad2:

A travesty.

Pretty much!

:eek::eek::eek:

Take this and run with it! Don't look back!

Yes! Hoping for the last detail to slot into place on Sunday.

We have just met you and we love you.

::yes::

Thanks for writing about Montreal. Sounds like a pretty decent start to your trip. Pretty funny about Trouver Doris! The hotdog poutine looks interesting. I would be a total sucker for your grapefruit flavored drink. Have you tried grapefruit beer? They have it in Germany in EPCOT.

I think I mentioned to you that my husband and I had a two part honeymoon (30 years ago this month...). We went to Montreal in July and then Disney, MK and EPCOT at the time, the following January. We were young, early twenties, and American and we had dinner one night at the fancy schmancy La Meridien where we were staying. I overheard our waiter make a disparaging remark in French about us to another waiter. When he came back to our table, I made a comment to Mark in French and the waiter turned beet red.

I'm excited to read that you may have a September cruise/vacation in the works. I hope that works out for you!

:goodvibes

I can't wait to hear about this, I hope you will give us some details!

Parasailing maybe.
But I think Ruby's snorkeling days are behind her.
I'll have to look into it more.

My two oldest kids did the parasailing at Castaway Cay and we're just a tad disappointed. $95 each for 10-15 min in the air, not such a good return on investment.

I'm still very much playing catch up but.....I have Epcot scheduled on the 17th!!

SO totally bummed I'll miss this epic DISmeet by 12 days :sad1:

Thanks for writing about Montreal.

You're welcome!
Although you may change your mind after the next update...

Sounds like a pretty decent start to your trip.

Yep. Not too shabby.

Pretty funny about Trouver Doris!

I know!

The hotdog poutine looks interesting.

Interesting? Perhaps.
Delectable? Definitely!

I would be a total sucker for your grapefruit flavored drink. Have you tried grapefruit beer? They have it in Germany in EPCOT.

I'm not a beer drinker,
much to my (German) Dad's chagrin.
So I'll probably never try it.

But with so many, many other things
to drink... I think I'll be okay.

 OMG. This is so familiar.
There's a fairly healthy French Canadian contingent
in Winnipeg.
And yet... they all seem to think
it's a secret language or something.

I remember a long time ago,
riding on a bus listening to two little old ladies.
They were speaking French and cutting up
everyone on the bus.
"Oh, look at that one... etc."

I still wonder what they did after I got off.
As I passed them, on my way out,
I spoke to them in French.

I'm excited to read that you may have a September cruise/vacation in the works. I hope that works out for you!

Me too!

$95?? Per person???
Yeah... okay, so that's not gonna happen.
Been there done that.

Honestly, I think we'd probably just enjoy relaxing,
wandering about and seeing what's what.

We'll see.

SO totally bummed I'll miss this epic DISmeet by 12 days :sad1:

Ah. That answers my question.
I saw your ticker and wondered if we'd overlap.
Hadn't bothered to check since nothing's booked yet.

Still... crap.

$95?? Per person???
Yeah... okay, so that's not gonna happen.
Been there done that.

Yep, per person :scared1:

Honestly, I think we'd probably just enjoy relaxing,
wandering about and seeing what's what.

There's lots of other stuff to do, you would probably like the adults only beach, quiet, has it's own bar I think. We didnt make it there because we had the youngest with us. We had a great time just chillin on the beach and playing in the water. Plus you can access the ship anytime during the day to watch a movie or nap...

Yep....crap

I'm thinking......... pass.

There's lots of other stuff to do, you would probably like the adults only beach, quiet, has it's own bar I think.

::yes:: I knew about the adults only area.
I'm thinking that's probably where we'll end up.
Then again.... who knows!

We didnt make it there because we had the youngest with us. We had a great time just chillin on the beach and playing in the water. Plus you can access the ship anytime during the day to watch a movie or nap...

Oh! Good to know.
I was wondering about that.
Ruby's not a fan of heat.
At. All.
I'm sure she'll be happy to know she can grab a nap
or at least air conditioning.

I'm not a beer drinker,
much to my (German) Dad's chagrin.
So I'll probably never try it.

I pretty much HATE beer, but my BIL brought some local grapefruit beer over the other night, and I actually enjoyed it. Seriously, surprised the heck out of me. You might like it....

Honestly, I think we'd probably just enjoy relaxing,
wandering about and seeing what's what.

I would definitely have lunch at the adult beach, not that I've had lunch at the kid's beach, but overall it seems a lot more calm. We had fun checking out the shops in the main beach area, but I know you hate shopping.
There are bikes you can ride around the island too.

I would definitely have lunch at the adult beach, not that I've had lunch at the kid's beach, but overall it seems a lot more calm.

That would appeal to us I think.
I seem to recall you did that, no?

We had fun checking out the shops in the main beach area, but I know you hate shopping.

Honestly it depends on the shops, Alison.
Art? Novelties? Eclectic items? Or better still... glass? Sure.
Shoe shopping or women's clothes... not so much.
But I can put up with that for a bit if it makes Ruby happy.

There are bikes you can ride around the island too.

I think I'd like that. Not sure about Ruby.
Depends on the temperature I'd bet.

As one of my kids (when they were 3) said: you Tom Peeper.

I pretty much HATE beer, but my BIL brought some local grapefruit beer over the other night, and I actually enjoyed it. Seriously, surprised the heck out of me. You might like it....

Hmmm... Well, in that case...
Maybe I'll give it a try if the opportunity presents itself.

Just wanted to say a proper hello. Sorry I haven't been around much. No excuse really just tired a lot. Last month I went to Columbus with my BFF and her two kids. Met up with a couple and their four kids and went to the zoo. Now for someone like me that has no kids this was a lot. Then her husband met up with us and we all went out to eat. It was a long day! And didn't get much sleep that night because her husband snores so loud and all night long!!! We tried the local German restaurant, Schmitt's and I found that I prefer the one up here in Parma way better. So it took me about five days to get caught up on sleep and back to normal.
Just got done dog, cat, house sitting for a week. They went to Norway. Me, I'm fine with seeing it in Epcot!
I'm jealous you're getting back to WDW and a cruise to boot! I thought you were going to take me next time! But no, you have to take your wife!
