Canada's new Prime Minister's stance on Terrorism given the attacks in Paris

Let's just remember that every refugee will be properly screened before arriving in Canada. The process was already started before these attacks, visa agents were already in place in the field and the government is adamant that measures are in place to assure that Canada remains secure. The first wave will be comprised of people who already have family here, and mostly women and children. That is what is being said today in many news outlets around here (I'm in Quebec, and use mainly French media (SRC/RDI, La Presse), but I'm thinking that CBC must be covering this too).
This is what I've been hearing too. I'm honestly not worried.

How do you properly screen someone that has no identification?

What makes you think they have no ID? The first refugees will all have family members who are already living in Canada vouching for them too.
I've been following coverage for the last few weeks. Few of them have ID.

Welcome to the world of global data. I don't understand the refusal to believe that many of these people are not as different from your average neighbors. Many of these people have extensive electronic backgrounds just like you and I have... education, banking, phones, work, medical etc. To think that somehow all of that is non-existent is naive. So yes many of them do indeed have documentation and identification that can be verified.

What would you do if you were suddenly without your physical 'papers'... would you cease to exist? Of course not, it might take some time, but your identification can be easily verified. It is not a impossible task to vet effectively a large amount of these refugees.

The refugee screening process is not new, it has been in effect for many years in many different crises around the world. The refugees who are coming here have been in UN temporary camps for many months. This screening process has been going on for some time. Janine Krieber, who is one of the country's best specialist on terrorism, professor at St-Jean's military college, is adamant that the process in place is adequate and efficient. She is saying that every measure is in place and has been for many months.

People are letting fear get the better of them. It's sad because this is how terrorism is successful. Fear and paranoia are not values that we should live by, if we give in to them, we are letting terrorism win. 250 000 people have died in Syria since Spring 2011; the people fleeing this country need some support.

It isn't easily verified from the Syrian government. That is the problem.

I don't know about Canada, but the US has millions of our own citizens we should be helping first.

Well that is a sad point of view... We are forgetting that we live in a world of luxury. Maybe it's different around where you live, but here, in Canada, it is safe to say that people don't have to embark their families on unsafe rafts and to walk for thousands of kilometers just to stay alive. It's safe to say that they have not been living in war for 4 years. It's safe to say that our people are not living in temporary UN camps for months/years. But hey, sure, let's just close our borders and forget about people who are suffering and living this life or death situation for years. I guess I'm just not understanding how you justify that position to be able to sleep at night.

LOL, You do not need the Syrian government at all.... that is part of the point I am trying to make. Do you have an inkling of the electronic trail you have created in your life? Unless you live in a cave like a hermit. Heck it would not take much to verify you just from your DIS activity alone. Many companies are global. We live in an electronic world that is far more interconnected then many of us realize.

It must be different in Canada because even our poorest of our poor do not even come close to living in the types of conditions these refugees have been living in not to mention the danger. We have our share of homelessness but there are shelters, soup kitchens, welfare, geared to income housing, mental health outreach programs and more.

You should be ashamed, putting your own people's needs ahead of people from the other side of the world (sarcasm)

This is interesting for our American friends who are fearing the refugees...

"Refugee resettlement is the least likely route for potential terrorists, says Kathleen Newland at the Migration Policy Institute, a think-tank. Of the 745,000 refugees resettled since September 11th, only two Iraqis in Kentucky have been arrested on terrorist charges, for aiding al-Qaeda in Iraq."

Interesting idea about a place for the refugees.

Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States have taken ZERO refugees! Yes, they’re the logical and closest choice for the Syrian refugees but they’re letting Germany and other countries take in thousands upon thousands of the Muslim refugees. This is so wrong on so many levels but it is important to ask why…

The wealthiest nation of the Arab states near Syria will not admit a single refugee. But what does the situation look like in terms of their capacity?

For weeks now, Europe has been in a state of emergency. This has been the biggest mass of people wandering through Europe Since World War Two. Many western governments are under pressure. There are even allegations made that they don’t do enough.

But at the same time, there are huge capacities available on the Arabian continent.

There is, for example, Mina, a valley east of the city of Mecca. The area is reserved for pilgrims on the hajj and is capable of housing three million people in huge, climatized tent camps.

This tent city was built in the 1990s on twenty square kilometers.

The tents are eight by eight meters; there are kitchens and baths. Since 1997 the tents have even been fireproof.

As the website ‘Amusing Planet’ reports, “Mina is pretty much empty for the rest of the year.” These tents are occupied only five days out of the year, during the Hajj.

Totally agree I'd only like to change the second last word of your post to read "OUR" support.
