I for one have more reason than most. I hope that the Canada Post vs CUPW situation gets resolved...and quickly. My dd's birthday is June 29th and most of her cards and her DVD's (that I ordered April 30th-but they didn't send them until June because I had asked for them not to send anything without my ok, duh I would have thought that since I ordered the DVD's that they would take that as I had OK'd them to be sent.)
Not only that but the main reason is that I am a Locked Out Canada Post employee. the only money that I now have coming in is my strike pay (which because I have to go and picket, just pays for the gas and not much more). So far I am down 1 whole bi-weekly pay. And will have to borrow money to make up the difference between the amount saved for my monthly bills and mortgage and the actual amounts. Plus Food etc. ps I'm a single parent without any form of child support. (the list goes on)
The media always say it is about wages, it isn't our wages that we are fighting for. It is our Sick plan that we are fighting to keep. The alternate plan that they are trying to force us into makes it so that if you were sick, just say bad bronchitis, you would have to go to the doctor -get a note (which is fine) but now you have to sign a medical release so that they can have all of your medical info and then a 3rd party gets to decide if you will get paid or not and that is only if it is over 7 days. If you have used up your 7 sick/personal days per year, any other sicknesses you won't be paid if it is under 7 days and if it is over 7 days, someone else decides whether you will receive pay or not. Don't forget that our own doctor has already decided that we are sick enough that we shouldn't be at work. That is just one of our big issues. Sorry this was long winded but I just wanted to give you a bit of an idea of what the fuss is.
That is why I have an "I Support CUPW" sign in my window. Downloaded from cupw website.
