Who was going?

Me – Kevin 41
Wife – Sandra 45

This was a holiday of firsts since myself and the wife were wed over 9 years ago. I had been to Disney 7 times, and she had been 4, all with me, this holiday would be;

Our first 2 week holiday alone with no kids
Our first 2 week holiday that was not Disney
First holiday with no hire car
First time ever to Canada
First holiday all pre arranged by a travel company for us
First holiday for me since loosing nearly 5 stone in weight

How did this happen?

Well when we last came back 2 years ago from Disney, I had told our daughter that, as I had taken herself and her boyfriend Dan and paid for them both, it would be the last major holiday that I would pay for them as they we at that time 18 and 20 and set to go to Uni.

So when I mentioned going back to Disney with the wife about 12 months ago, she said 'without the kids? You must be joking they would never talk to you again' ! So with that in mind I thought it was unfair of me to do so, but more on my thought of that after the holiday.

So we plumped for Canada, I had always wanted to see Niagara Falls, and to visit Victoria in British Columbia, my wife had always wanted to go on a Canadian train (she loves trains, more than I love Disney World) and to visit the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, something we tried to do about 4 years ago but it fell through.

So thats how we ended up going to Canada, and we bought a complete package from Connections who did a trip that encompassed all of that plus more. The itinerary was

3 nights in Toronto
3 nights in Banff
2 days on the Rocky Mountaineer train
3 nights in Vancouver
4 nights in Victoria

It was a mammoth holiday, 3 time zones 4 flights, no car, 4 locations. So we treated ourselves to new cases that had wheels !

So we booked, paid up and waited for the 17th of June to arrive, when we would be off to Heathrow...........

That sounds such a lovely trip. :dance3:

We have done Canada skiing 7 times now - Banff/Lake Louise/Fernie/Jasper.

All BEAUTIFUL places and wonderful friendly people.

We have had friends do it in the summer and say how wonderful it is.

The train will be a special experience - I think it goes through Jasper. If you get a chance go to the Bears Paw bakery - right opposite the station - sit on the hi-tops in the window and just take it all in - the scenery is breathtaking.

Cant wait to hear all about it. Have a FAB time :cheer2::cheer2:

Sounds Like a really great trip so many amazing places :) and Niagara Falls is so beautiful Thats one place I can't wait to go back and visit :)

This is similar to a trip we did in 2005 so I'm REALLY looking forward to this report. :thumbsup2

Great start Kevin - can't wait to read all about it.

Must admit Canada really appeals to me - particularly the train journey

As Tam says, we quite fancy a trip to Canada. This report may sway us to go (or otherwise!)
