Today we had the morning to ourselves, but this afternoon we were on a trip to Lake Louise and Lake Moraine.
Up and ready, breakfast was in the Keg, but was not included in the hotel price, so for the three days we were there, breakfast was about $40 per day, which was about £25.00. Compared to the evening meal, the breakfast was good, the poor exchange rate made it expensive. Pancakes and maple syrup were the order of the day, then we set off out the hotel doors.
As part of the hotel deal, you got a free bus pass for Banff, as we walked past the bus stop, it pulled up and we got on. It drives down town through and up to the tourist attractions like the Gondola (cable car for us brits ) and the Hot Springs. As our trip fpor today was this afternoon, we rode up to the Gondola and had a look round. We did not go on the Gondola as that was for the next day.
We had a coffee at Starbucks, (they really are everywhere!) and admired the view and the beautiful quietness then waited for the bus back to town. The mountain air in Banff is really refreshing, and yet people come here and smoke ! I just didn't get it.
Back at the hotel we waited to be picked up, and we were first, so got a good seat, our driver was called Hugh, and he was really funny, and full of Banff information, he must have had a degree in history, he just knew everything !
Off we went to Lake Louise, which when we saw it, is simply stunning, jaw dropping stuff.
We then proceeded to Lake Moraine, equally of not more beautiful. Here there was a small cafe where we got a drink, and a cake, and then we were driven back. On the way back I actually saw a black bear, but we were going too fast to get a picture.
Bears are everywhere !
All in all, another great day, such a contrast to Toronto, Banff was beautiful, and the lakes were stunning. I wish we could have stayed there longer.
That evening, the restaurant at the hotel next to us was the destination, this restaurant was Chill's. After the bill the previous evening, we skipped starter, and just had mains, a much more palatable $77.00. I had ribs but they were a bit tough, but the missus really enjoyed the steak. We then sat at the bar having a Molson beer and we caught up on the world cup football.
Then it back to our hotel and straight to bed !
