Can you waitlist with no reservation?

OK we learned our lesson. We usually rent DVC from a good friend for our November trip. She kept telling me to make up my mind about where we wanted to stay the first half of our trip! Since I wasn't really picky about where we would stay, I asked her to call. NO availability for a studio anywhere 11-11 to 11-14. So I was wondering if you can waitlist for just those dates? I know if you have a ressie you can waitlist for a different resort, but not sure if you can just put in a waitlist for a "just in case something comes available". We are already booked those dates for the GF but wanted to make a split stay if possible.

Yes, you can waitlist without having an existing reservation. You just have to have the points available if it comes through.

You really need to ask the member that question. If she goes waitlist for those dates it essentially ties up her points (mentally, at least) and won't have them available to use or rent to someone else. Depending on her use year, that may or may not be a problem. Example: If she has a December use year and gets on a waitlist for November and it doesn't come through, it's too late to bank the points into next year and she has to use the points before Dec 1st. Because November is sold out, she can't. Therefore, she loses use of the points. February use year can also be problematic at that point as availability that time of year doesn't much loosen up until after the Marathon. Booking a trip in the last 2 weeks of January may not be the trip of choice.
