Can you use snack credits at the hotel shops?

We are travelling in November and this will be our first time with the Dining Plan. I remember from our last visit three years ago that the stores in the hotel lobby (we stayed at AK, this time staying at GF) sold drinks, cereal, snacks, etc. Wondering if we can use snack credits for those, or only at actual food kiosks and restaurants. Also realizing that if we are arriving in the evening, are we essentially losing an entire day's worth of the DP, or would it take effect the fist full day we are there?

Dining plan begins on check-in day, but you don't "lose" a day if you check in late. The dining credits can be used at ANY time during your stay. You're not locked into using 1TS, 1QS, and 2 snacks per day if on the standard DDP.

I did see DDP Snack signs on food items in the shops at POFQ & POR last November. We weren't using the plan so I don't remember which ones. I do know people were using them there as I was twice behind someone buying food items with Snack credits. The foodcourts also have items that qualify as Snacks.

Yes, there are snacks available in the hotel stores (Goofy's Candy Co., pre-packaged cookies, etc). Look for the symbol or ask a CM if something qualifies. The candy at Panchito's at CSR was pretty well labeled with what qualified for a snack credit.

Credits are pooled for the room and can be used at any point from check-in day until midnight on your check-out day.

Yes, you can use them at the gift shops. On check in day, we used a couple to buy milk & oj for the next RD morning!

Thanks everyone! Makes sense now. I feel like a DP virgin, LOL. Been to WDW three times, but feels like the first with DP and planning out meals, etc.
