We are going to WDW in 12/09 for our 10th Anniversary DFTVR. We are planning on renting points from a very nice Dis-er (still looking for him/her if anyone has points to rent!!:thumbsup2 ) and hoping to stay at VWL. But dh really likes Ft Wilderness. So my question is, can you use points to stay at any resort on property, or just DVC?? If you can stay anywhere, how much more is it?? What i was looking at for the time we are going for VWL would have been about 60 points.

You can rent points for any DVC resort, any Disney deluxe or mod resort, and FW. Not value resorts. However, you won't like the "exchange rate" at non-DVC properties. You will probably come out ahead going through CRO if you are going to stay at a non-DVC resort...especially if your stay includes any Friday or Saturday nights, when DVC points costs are about double the weekday costs.

For VWL, you'd better get moving. That's a very small resort, and it is very much in demand in December -- as are all of the DVC resorts. The points costs from just after Thanksgiving through the middle of December are the lowest of the year, and that plus all the holiday stuff makes it a VERY popular time.

Thanks for the heads up!! unfortunatly, it's for Dec of NEXT YEAR. So i have to wait a few more months. my plan is to hopefully find someone interested in renting points to me around Jan so come Feb 3rd, I can book VWL.:thumbsup2

If you are planning a Dec. 2009 trip, you will want to be ready to rent by January, because waiting until February might be too late for some Dec. units at VWL.

Just another FYI. If you are waiting until Feb. 3, that probably means you are planning on staying over the holiday week and including New Year's Eve. That is the single most booked DVC night, and MUST e booked day by day in most cases. I would think it might be difficult to find a renter who would book day by day, but anything is possible. I would probably not expect to get a per point "deal" on that stay though under those conditions.

We want to stay at VWL 12/5 -12/10 2009 . When should i start looking for someone to rent points from??

As Dianne said, you will want to book in early January...especially if you want to stay at VWL. I'd begin looking in mid-December of this year.

We can book reservations at our home resort eleven months to the day from the date of checkout. So, for your dates, the entire reservation could be booked on Jan 11th if you're checking out on Dec 11th.

The important thing to understand is that you MUST make arrangements with a VWL owner in order to get the 11-month booking window. If you wait until 7 months, when anyone can book at any resort, it's extremely unlikely that you'll be able to get that prime week at VWL.

Day-by-day booking means booking each night separately, precisely at 11 months. In your case, booking the night of 12/5 on Jan 6th, 12/6 on Jan 7th, etc. During REALLY in-demand times, day-by-day is often the only way to get ressies at the smaller resorts. If you wait until 11 months from your checkout date, other owners may have snapped up the availability by booking day-by-day.

Day-by-day is a lot of work for an owner renting points, and there could be some additional risk to them if not all the dates turn out to be available.

I didn't realised VWL would be so popular!! Which resort would be the easiest to get into ?

Old Key West, Saratoga Springs, and Animal Kingdom Villas. They are the largest resorts with the most number of available rooms.

Good Luck!
