We are stay at Pop can we go use a beach somewhere else? I was esp. thinking that if we sent the kids off on the pirates cruise it would be nice for the dh and I to do some beach time alone.

I believe that resort-specific amenities like that are only for guests of that resort, and just like pool hopping, is not allowed.

Those 'perks' are why folks pay extra to stay at the resorts with more available to them. It wouldn't be fair if guests of other properties made it such that the guests of the actual resort were shut out of things.

I completly understand all that but I quess I'm wondering if our kids do the pirates cruise at cbr what are we to do? I'm not sure if you can keep an eye on the boat from the beach but that would be nice for peace of mind and a nice way to kill some time alone w/ dh. What do others do when not staying at hotel and kids go on cruise, any suggestions?

1. I'm sure it would be ok to sit on the beach, just ask a CM. However, there is no swimming in any of the lakes at WDW.

2. There are rules against anyone using the pool unless they are a resort guest at that resort.

3. You are welcome to go to the lounge, restaurant, shops, etc.

4. It is REQUIRED that parents enjoy themselves when the kids are off doing activities!

wow! I had no idea you couldn't swim in the lakes, now I feel better about not booking at a hotel w/ a beach!!!
P.S. I would never think about pool hopping. when we go to cancun I can't stand it when people do that!! If the nicer pool is that important to you than you should have to pay the price. We are just beach people and coming from Mi would love a beach fix in late nov. while we waited for kids to do the cruise.

What is the Pirates Cruise? I am trying to think of something you and DH could do while still keeping in safe distance of your kids, but I am not familiar with it and where the Pirates Cruise launches.

As far as sitting on the beach I agree that you will be allowed. We stayed at BCV this year and went to the Poly to watch the fireworks and the electric water pageant from the beach.

Hello from a fellow beach person. My wife and I are such beach people that, after being married 7 years and living in 3 different states we decided to move to the beach. The real beach. If it weren't winter I'd be hearing the Atlantic Ocean right now (the windows are closed!).

OK, now that you have my credentials, please trust me on the following: the beaches at CBR are not beaches, at least not to beach people. They are cosmetic approximations of beaches. They are pleasant to look at, but they're not beaches. Beaches have water you can bathe in. Beaches have a salt water aroma (well, OK, having lived near Lake Erie for a few years I know this one isn't always true). Beaches often have a nice breeze. Beaches have a distinctive sound, if not crashing waves then lapping, moving, "LIVING" water. CBR has none of the above. It's not a beach if you can throw a stone from the beach and hit land on the other side!!! :rotfl:

All this being said, I absolutely love CBR. I've stayed there twice and I hope to go again if I'm looking for a moderate resort. I'm not in any way putting it down. I'm just trying to scare you straight, as a "beach brother" to you, that someone who adores beaches will find CBR's "beaches" lacking. Let me put it another way. If you compare CBR's beaches to real beaches you'll be disappointed. But if you take them on their own merits they're absolutely lovely; the hammocks are an EXCELLENT touch.

Hey, thanks for that heads up on the beach! I believe that these cruises also happen at other resorts, are there any beaches in disney that are Okay? Being from Mi we are use to lake beaches although it doesn't compare to the ocean in the Outerbanks that we try to visit yearly (not this year because of wdw :sad2: can't do it all). So I am pretty easy to please, just give me some lapping water and soft sand between my toes and I can close my eyes and imagine the (real) beach. But it doesn't sound like crb will cut it.
To the other question the pirates cruise is an outing for kids 4-12(?). They have stops thoughout the cruise to find treasure. They also get lunch so I think the cruise is from 9-11:30.
Thanks for all the help, hopefully someone will have a good idea for something for the dh & I to do that is very relaxing!

no lapping water either...

the Poly beach was OK but they are just lake beaches...with some white sand but not "that" kind of beach!!

hey I thought the pirate cruise was off the GF coast??? Maybe I am wrong but if not then I suggest a nice drink or great meal somewhere together or some resort scoping, that would be fun! I think the beach would be fine for you to hang out on esp if paying for your kids to be on a cruise!! Goodness...if they want you to shop and eat there WHY can you not at least hang out at the beach??? Don't get me started on the pool issue!! :rotfl2:

I hope your kids like the cruise

have fun!!!

There are alligators in the water at Disney, definitely no swimming and I would not get to near the edge either.

If your kids are doing the cruise, you can check out the shops, get something to eat, schedule an appointment at the Spa, walk over to the Polynesian and check out their shops and have something to eat, ride the monorial over to the Contemporary, they have really nice shops.

Are you kidding there are really alligators in the water!? Even the ones that they show advertisments of people walking the beach or fishing the shore line?
The pirates cruise is out of Gf and i guess that it is so popular that they started one at cbr also. I have not confirmed that myself, just read it on a thread here.
Is the poly w/in walking distance of Gf or cbr?
Dh is not a fan of shopping maybe we will go to fort wilderness and go horseback riding :scratchin:

I hadn't read that yet. I can't imagine where they would do one at cbr.

I think that it said that it makes some stops in world showcase :confused3
I'm not sure I will have to see if I can find the post.

I think the "no swimming" rule partially comes from parasites in the water--not necessarily alligators. (Though you'll see them, too.)
Remember way back when there was swimming in the lagoons? :sunny:

That is the albatross cruise that leaves from the Yacht Club marina. There is also a new Pirates Cruise that is at CBR. Unfortunately, there is nothing within walking distance of CBR except... CBR.

Is the albatross any good? I'm sure it is but do you know what they do, is it the same concept as the pirates? Thanks ;)

Yea, the word "beach" has always cracked me up too. lol. But, who cares, it is Disney. LOL. I don't worry about the "beach resorts" because I live on the beach...I want land on my vacation lol. :sunny:

Alligators in the water? I have never heard of that at the resorts. My daughters are supposed to do the pirate cruise, but if there is a possibility that they may come in contact with an alligator and me not being there, then i may have to cancel.
When we booked the pirate cruise we were told that it leaves from the Grand Floridian. I know there is a new one that leave fromt he CBR, but ours was booked to leave from GF.
