Can you update part of a package to an AP?

Hi all! I am booked for a free dining package (there are three of us) but I will be coming back in March with someone else and between the two trips it makes sense for me to get an AP. What I'm not clear on though is if it is possible to take my 5 day pass that is a part of the package and upgrade only the one pass to an AP? Would that invalidate the package deal since the three of us wouldn't have the same ticket?
The other part of this question is that if I CAN upgrade my 5 day pass and not lose the free dining would I be able to get the mondo both park pass and use it starting in September even though the package trip is not until December? I never thought I would ever go to enough parks to have an AP make sense much less one for BOTH! :lmao:

You can't upgrade the package to include an AP, however once you arrive you can upgrade your ticket to an AP at guest services.

That makes sense... do you know if I bought a disneyland AP, then tried to upgrade my 5day pass & the DL AP to the mondo one if that would work? Or would my DL AP not be upgradeable with the 5day MYW?

I'm pretty sure you can only use one of them for the upgrade.
If you're going to be in DL enough to warrant the AP there, I'd just buy the premier pass and save your 5-day ticket for a future upgrade/renewal or just another trip where you'd only need the 5 days.

You've got me thoroughly confused. When you talk about free dining, you're referring to WDW, right? When you're talking about the mondo both park pass, are you referring to the Premier Passport that's good for WDW and DL?

When you purchase the free dining package at WDW, you will all be buying the same 5 day MYW tickets which satisfies the requirements of the package. You can then take your own ticket to Guest Relations at any park or City Hall at Magic Kingdom and upgrade your ticket to an AP without doing anything to the other tickets. This does not affect your package in any way.

If I'm following the progression of your trips, it looks as though you're going to DL in September and WDW in December with free dining, correct? Hopefully Cheshire Figment will confirm this is correct but I believe that you can purchase your DL AP in September and then apply both the WDW 5 day MYW ticket along with your DL AP towards purchasing a Premier Passport in December. I also believe though that this will give your PP an expiration date of the DL AP meaning September. I'm not positive on all of this though so hopefully somebody more knowledgeable will chime in to confirm or correct this.

Both are correct - I will be going to DL for 5 days over labor day weekend, then another 5 days in WDW in December with free dining and then to WDW again in March for another 6 days. Sorry to be so confusing!

I hope you're right clanmcculloch! Its what I am hoping for! :thumbsup2

I don't think Cheshire Figment hangs out in this area much. However, I do know, because I had a similar issue and asked CF about it, that you CANNOT use two tickets (or an AP and a ticket) toward any kind of upgrade, specifically including the Premier Passport. You can only apply one ticket or AP toward the PP.

The smart move here would be to just go ahead and buy a Premier Passport at Disneyland in September. If you buy an AP at Disneyland and then upgrade it to the PP when you arrive at WDW in December, the PP will be backdated to whenever you bought the Disneyland AP, so you're not gaining anything by waiting (except for not shelling out all the money for a PP at once, I guess).

Hold on to the 5-day MYW ticket that comes with the December package. It will not expire until used, and you could apply it toward a more expensive ticket or pass (including an AP or PP renewal) later.

That sounds brillant Foodlover! Even though the MYW is tied to the room etc it still will remain unused and valid for any length of time, really? Even with the date/resort and stuff on it? I had no idea! :woohoo:

Would my BF be able to use the 5 day pass in March when we go back? Or would I have to since its my name on the card (from when we stay in the resort in December)

Don't know anything about the PP. However, I had a package booked in August of 2009. I had 7 day park hoppers included. I am an AP holder and didn't use my park hopper. I got full credit for my hopper when I renewed my AP in May. Just didn't use it before my renewal. Thought this might be good information.

By the way, I had the buy 4 get 3 free deal. Was told that if I had used one day it would only be a 6 day park hopper (no bigge cause its only 3 bucks a day after day 5 - but still).

Yes, your boyfriend will be able to use a previously unused ticket even with your name on the card. Unused tickets are fully transferable.

You can also ask the concierge desk at your hotel to remove the ticket from the now-useless KTTK card. If they do that, you'll get something that looks like a KTTK card but has no name on it.

This all sounds amazingly easy - its almost a crime how well this is going to work out. All I need to decide now is if i want to pay for it all at once or spread it out like FoodLover mentioned. You are all so knowledgeable!

you only need to get 2 day passes for the free dining if you decide that the AP is a better deal. You can keep yours for further use in the future
