Sorry if this question should go elsewhere!

We just closed on a 200 pt resale contract that had 50 pts banked from 2010. We just booked a last minute trip in early January on the Disney Wonder & wanted to spend a few days in Disneyland but the Grand Californian is booked up. We can get into the Paradise Pier, but cannot use the points we bought resale and do not want to deal with the hassle of renting our points and then borrowing from next year off of our other DVC contract that we bought directly from Disney in 2005.

Is it possible to "trade" points with another member? Ie I let them use my 50 pts to book at a DVC resort and they transfer their 50 DVC points to me to use for a reservation at Paradise Pier?

I am hoping as I type this that it makes sense!!

you cannot actually rent pts. you cannot transfer banked or borrowed pts.

you can make a reservation with those banked pts. you can use the reservation yourself, give it to family/friends or rent the reservation.

you could theoretically trade the reservation to someone but frankly, it's way too complicated for most people to want to deal with. just rent the reservation to get cash.

if it's cheaper to book PP with cash, do that...or else look for a DVC member willing to book a reservation at PP with pts. but cash works better than bartering pts IMO.

Thanks for the advice Charles.

But I just found out I do not have enough posts in the last 6 months to post anything on the Rent/Trade board, so I am not sure exactly to go about selling it now...

*Information has been deleted that could be construed as offering an existing reservation. THis would only be allowed on the Rent/Trade board. If you do not have enough post, or your posts do not meet the distribution criteria to use the Rent/Trade board, you have the option of using one of the payment plans as outlined in the Rent/Trade Board posting rules. Please see the **How to Use This Board** Sticky Thread onthe Rent/Trade Board for more info. - Chuck S

You could try David or the TSS or pay to post on the rent trade board.

I finally got around to getting a new account so I could get rid of that horrible "Tollerwalker" handle!

Great news - I called this morning I was able to get a ressie at Grand Californian (someone must have cancelled their reservation) so I have no need to sell the points anymore. yay me!

Sounds like your specific needs have been met, and I'm glad your plans worked out. For the sake of others who may view this thread, I'll add a comment on your original question.

What you were asking to do... trade points with another member... wouldn't work because of the way the DVC transfer rules are set up. You're only permitted to have one transfer (in or out) per use year. You'd use that up transferring your 50 points to the other member. You wouldn't have another transfer available to receive their 50 points.

The only way this would work would be to transfer them your points for one use year, and receive points for another use year. That starts to fall into the "too complicated" category, and you'd be hard pressed to find any takers.

Also, as it appears you may have found out the hard way ;), you wouldn't be able to coordinate such a trade on the DISboards. You're only permitted to post threads about points that are available. You're not allowed to post points/reservations wanted threads.

What I was hoping was possible was a "swap" - I book a ressie for someone using my 2011 points (which were banked from 2010), and they use their points to book me a reservation (I was trying to book at Paradise Pier which I could not do with my 2011 points as they were just bought resale and I was tryiing to avoid borrowing from 2012). Then it would be even steven - no borrowing, no transfers, no worries about banking, no trying to sell the 2011 points on the disboard. I was trying to think outside the box, but I think I just ended up confusing myself & everyone else who read my post. :goodvibes

Luckily I don't have to worry about it anymore as the Grand Californian finally had an opening for our Jan 2-5 stay

Yes, the Rent/Trade Board has been used in the past for such trades with other members. It is not something done on a regular basis, but the R/T board may be used for that purpose - especially if there is no existing reservation already in place.

So, for Future Reference, the Rent/Trade Board may be used for trades as described.

Glad you were able to find what you wanted thru MS though - as that is always a LOT easier! :)
