Can you think of a better reason not to join DVC(at least for now)

My youngest sister and her husband had researched joining DVC the past month and made the decision to join. They went to OKW with us 2 years ago and were very impressed. They had all of their papers signed and in an envelope ready to mail this past Thursday when they received a call that quickly changed everything. They were told to prepare to go to China in the middle of Nov. to pick up their first child, a beautiful daughter. They'll rethink DVC after they return from China. I can hardly wait to take my new niece to WDW and stay at DVC on my points!

Congratulations to you, your sister and her husband. Who could blame them for putting off DVC for another day. It will certainly be a memorable Thanksgiving this year.

How exciting. I know that this will become the beginning of the best time of their life.

How sweet.
There was an article in our local paper on Over Seas Adoptions just yesterday.
Congrats!

Yup... No DVC trades into China. ;)

Hope everything works out for your DS and DBIL.

I too have a daughter from China which I was welcomed into our family in May of this year. Congratulations to your family members as they welcome their new little daughter and I do believe that DVC can wait. However, you can tell them that there are some tax credits available after they complete the adoption and they could use the refund for DVC.

Congratulations to them!!!

I bet after they settle in with their new little one, they will be joining DVC - for what better reason - than vacations with the little one!!!!

Congrats! Although I admit I'm a little confused. I'm active in the international adoption community (my son is from South Korea) and I'm wondering exactly how this happened so unexpectedly. Generally, you have a couple month window where you are pretty sure you'll get "the call" and then know you'll be traveling in a month or so after that.

We often say that although you may wake up unexpectedly pregnant (as is the case with my daughter) few people wake up unexpectedly having to fill out an I-600.

They had been told to expect a call between Oct and Jan. They just did not expect to receive it on Oct. 2nd. They have been working on this for 2 years. They chose to delay it once because of her husband not working at the time. When they continued this year, there was another delay with SARS. Now, there main concern is to go to China, come back home and settle in with their daughter. They hope to look at DVC in Jan., possibly. We've have not had a baby in the family in 20 years. My DD and DS are delighted to finally have a cousin on my side of the family.

Its great that they got the call so early in their timeframe! The waiting is so difficult! When we adopted from Korea they were actively looking for parents for little boys - little boys were waiting and we got our referral within days of finishing our homestudy, so we never had to really wait for referral (we did wait for travel, but only a few months). It was moving so fast that several of the people that adopted around when we did slowed down the process on purpose and asked that they be put on hold until they were ready. But long waits and delays are more common in adoption than our experience.

There are a number of yahoo groups dedicated to international and Chinese adoption. She probably already knows, but if she doesn't, she should check them out to find out what recent experiences have been with travel and attachment. Watch the jet lag - the time zone switch is worse than recovering from labor. :p

Best wishes.

:p
