We are planning a trip Dec 2003 (13-21 to be exact), is this usually when the cheerleaders are there? The reaseon for asking is that it will be the deciding decision between 2 rooms at ASMo or 1 room at PO-R.
I just don't want to be around alot of noise at night after spending all day at the parks. Any advice?

The Pop Warner Cheerleaders will be there on Thursday the 12th, and there compitition is on that Sat. They are at the ASSp, or at least that is where my niece will be if she makes it. They may spill over into the other All Stars though, so if you wanted to avoid them I would stay at POR.

I know they are kind of a bummer to people on vacation, but I am hoping for my niece everyday to make it - we are so proud of her, and these girls work hard everyday to make it, and they also fundraise like crazy. It cost about 600 per girl on the squad to get there and they don't find out if they make it until two weeks before. I will just happen to be at Disney the week of the 8 -13, so I will be thrilled to if she makes it while we are there!

The competitions are heald at the Disney's wide world of sports complex. It is open to the public - tickets are somewhere around $10.

My daughter's squad is also in the running to go. If they take first or second place in the regional competition on November 24th then we head back to Disney in December. We come back from our family vacation at the Wilderness Lodge on November 16!

For anyone interested in gymnastics - there is a Junior Olympic competition, levels 5-10 being held there this winter.

My trip isn't until next year, but thanks for the idea of when they are usually there. I don't have a problem with them there I just have a problem with the practicing at all hours of the night, which I have heard some of them do. I do wish your niece the best of luck though.

We have been there during a few of our trips when the Cheerleaders were there and had no problems. In fact, they added to the trips. mostof these young ladies are very nice and refreshing to talk to.

I think that a few bad apples or mis-placed attitudes and opinions on these boards have given them an unjustified bad rep.

Just one person's opinion.

:D

kacoggie - looks like our girls will be competing in Mass. together! What age group is your daughter in? My niece is Concord Capitols from NH, so look for her, she is the cutest gosh darn one there. I'm not sure if I can make the compitition or not but, Lots of luck to your daughter and her team!

Unfortunatley both of my daughters teams did not make it to regionals, but we are still hopeful for the football team!!! My oldest daughters team hasn't lost a game yet!! We play the State championship on Sunday. Then onto regionals hopefully!! This team has made it to Florida a few years ago. Good luck to the girls competing, and keep your fingers crossed for our boys. I already will be in Disney the week prior to Nationals, so if they do go down I would have to extend my vacation for another week ,how cool would that be.....:Pinkbounc

Good luck to everyone!

TiggerLilly's Mom - my daughter is a junior midget on the Clinton Gaels squad.

We saw a lot of cheerleaders a couple years ago. It was fun watching them parade around the theme parks in pretty racy outfits.

I was there last year when Pop Warner was there. The overflow was at POR. I would try and stay away from them. Not that they are nasty and rude, but because it makes the resort and busses seem more busy. Most mornings/late mornings they were in the food court primping and spraying hairspray and cheering ALL the time. Sometimes cute sometimes annoying. In H.S. my 2 best friends were cheerleaders, they cheer all the time no matter what ;) The thing that bugged me the most was taking up all the courtyards and open areas to practice while all the family stood on and around (blocking) the walking paths and the pool area was always full of boy crazy girls and girl crazy boys!!! :p There is a website that has all the information of when Pop Warner will be there. I of couse don't remember it! Have fun and G-O-O-D L-U-C-K to all the cheerleaders!!!

Just a note that the football players will be there earlier that same week. I was a little bummed to find out that all those extra people would be there when I tried to plan my trip for a less crowded time. However, it was pointed out to me that they are always there that time of year and yet the attendence levels are still low.

I have been told that it can be more difficult to get on a bus if you are staying anywhere near them. Since we are staying at WL I'm not concerned and am getting very excited about our trip.

Well hello there kacoggie!!! Nice to see someone from around here. We were in your town for 4th of July last year. Really nice time. I realize that you are in beautiful wdw right now. Hope your trip is terrific!!!

Not that the Cheerleading competition isn't quite an accomplishment for your kids BUT....

As a bystander I have been at AS/S when cheerleading was in full swing and I had a horrible time. There were tons of them, they were shrieking, they were everywhere I turned, there were TONS of them in the pool doing pyramids (no room for anyone to swim!).... Now I won't go back to AS. This time we're trying POR.

Again, it is very exciting for the kids, but if you're looking for some relaxation at your resort- thousands of *really excited* 14-18 year old girls isn't the best thing to come "home" to. ;)

I have to agree that they can become anoying..... don't get me wrong....I have nothing against them (my daughter cheers for HS). But to have to put up with them doing each others hair (with the Mom's helping them) in the FOOD COURT is a bit too much! I don't enjoy the smell of hair spray while eating & it has happened to me at the AS-Sports last year. I was so sick from the smell that I asked a Cast Member to please ask them not to do that in the food court. No sooner did the CM walk away, they started it back up again! Not for nothing but what are we teaching our children. Like I said, I have nothing against them, but they should show some respect for others when out in public. I wonder if a judge saw them doing that (while in uniform) would that effect their scores??? I know my daughter's coach in HS is very strict about their behavior out in public. She always tells them that they are representing the school & must always be on best behavior....in & out of uniform!
