Hello all,
We are a military family and are staying at shades of green in about a week. We just go the room yesterday after calling everyday. We booked there cause of the price:) Can you tell us everything good and bad about the place thanks so much!

We have really enjoyed it. It is small and quiet. Great for small children. Close to the monorail and the bus service is just as good as Disney. Have fun!

SOG is great, we have stayed there several times. It is a short walk across the street to the Polynesian where you can catch the monorail. This is sometimes quicker and easier than the bus for MK and Epcot. The rooms are very nice, large and comfortable. The restaurants are reasonably priced, a rarity at Disney! SOG doesn't have the theming of the other resorts but there is a Mickey shaped pool. There is a nice food cart in the lobby where you can get a quick breakfast. When we went we always ate once at Ohana's and used the Neverland Club for an adult night out to the CA Grill, all very convient to SOG. Any specific questions feel free to ask. Have a great trip!

You will love it!

The rooms are quite large, clean, and well maintained. I agree w/ previous post, best way to monorail is to just walk straight out the entrance road to Polynesian (about a 5-8 minute walk, but a nice one; you'll see little gators, exotic birds, etc.). We drove our own car everywhere else, and that worked well for us; but I believe the bus system works well- we just didn't use it.

The Garden Gallery restaurant is nothing fancy, but the service is good and it is very reasonable compared to other Disney restaurants. If you see servers Jimmy & James, say hi for us (the Red Sox fans from New England)!

The sports bar near the pool is very good and reasonable - (TIP: take out is better than sit down service there; there's a number you can call from your room and your food will be ready in 5 minutes. We sat down for a lunch, and it was very slow).

Theming might not be as lavish as at other resorts, but SOG makes up for it in being quiet, secluded, and near the MK. If we could, we would go there EVERY time!!!

Please let us know how you enjoyed your stay when you get back.

Dan

We have stayed at the shades of green a few times and also love it. Ditto on the walk to polynesian. My kids love the monorail and it is not that long a walk. We didn't like the food at the main restaurant. In the evening the kids where so tired and we would either order room service which was reasonable or order and pick up from the sports bar. I think a grilled cheese sandwich and fries through room service was only about $5. Another advantage is that you can drop film off at the gift shop and get it back the next day and it not too expensive. We loved seeing our pictures that soon. The breakfast stand was great. They had fruit, juice, soda, milk, bagels and cream cheese, toaster pops, danishes, granola bars and so forth. The gift shop also had beer and soda and snacks so you don't have to pay the higher prices at the bar if you like beer.
One of the best things we discovered is at night when the MK closes. Instead of waiting for the buses or monorail which are very busy, we would go to the small boat for the GF and the Poly. I don't think I ever saw more then 6 people waiting for it and so we usally waited about 5 minutes and then took it to the poly and walked to the SOG. They never asked for our hotel ID although I guess they may if it is very busy. Enjoy your trip.

You guys have made me feel so much better about our stay! Can I ask is there a couch in the room that pulls out? I ask this cause we have a 2 yr old. Or will they end up giving us two beds? Also is there a iron board ,coffe maker in the rooms. How about a fridge..LOl I know I have tons of questions. Is there pools heated cause if not we are not bringing swim suits caue i hear its cold there:( Also how late is the rrom service open? Thanks agian for letting me ask a milllion questions:)

Each room has 2 queen beds and a sleeper sofa. They have ironing boards in all rooms and coffee makers, (plus coffee & creamer/sugar is supplied daily). You can request a fridge for $5/day.

I don't remember for sure if the pool is heated, but it probably is. Weather.com shows temps in the mid to upper 70s by Wednesday of next week. Bring the suits.

There was post recently(now which board- I don't remember)
Someone was booked into SOG either March, Apr or May and they had txed the reservation center to confirm their upcoming ressies and they were told they were being moved to the contempory due to the fact SOG is undergoing 18 months of upgrading and renovations. (wish the search feature was working so I could copy the post I am speaking about)

Okay-those with good memories and updated resort info can this information be confirmed and if so, are all moves going to the contemporary?

If this is the case why is Disney continuing to book the SOG?

Disney doesn't book SOG. SOG is run by the Army and if you call now to book for the period of the renovation they are offering the Contemporary at whatever price you would pay at SOG. (prices at SOG vary by rank) I made a reservation fro November just last week. It is a nice opportunity for miltary folks to stay at a Disney deluxe resort for a great discount. My understanding is that SOG will have their ticket office set up at the Contemporary during the renovation so we can still purchase the Stars and Stipes passes. Hope this helps.

We have never stayed there. But we played golf there and ate at the place by the pool. Must tell you that we had the best hamburgers we have had anywhere, ever. They were fantastic. And we have eaten hamburgers all over the world. But these were truly great! (Now, of course, when you get there, they will be awful) But I just wanted to tell you that they were amazing once!

Have a great time!

Yea weare going in March about 2-3 weeks befor they close:) I am so excited and thanks for all the answers !

Cousin recently called for ressies(few wks ago)....he got res. at CRS for 3-18/3-22....whats up???Which building will they be any??

SOG has always had the ability to book people in at other Disney resorts if they are filled up which they usually are. It all depends on how many rooms Disney is willing to offer at reduced rates. A few months ago I booked the Polynesian through SOG, though usually they offer the all stars or CB. Sometimes though depending on how full Disney is they will offer a wide variety of resorts.

Did you recieve any type of confirmation from the SOG on your room that you booked in Nov? We booked two rooms for Dec. and I got confirmation numbers, but I never recieved the confirmation letter that you used to recieve. Are they still sending out letters? Also, tried to book for New Years (Dec 27-Jan 2) and was put on a wait list. They are sold out for that week.

I made my ressie by e-mail. The email I got back said I shhoud expect a confirmation letter from Disney by May, if not to call SOG. I read recently that Disney has set aside the same number of rooms at the Contemporary that SOG currently has so I would expect them to book quickly, since in some ways you are getting a nicer resort at SOG prices. I've never stayed at the Contemporary so I couldn't resist the temptatioon! Have fun in December!:)

We have stayed at the CR and you will like it! We will be there at Easter, but I just couldn't pass up staying there again in Dec for SOG prices! It's really a deal. We usually stay in the tower, but for 89 a night (my husbands rate) I couldn't pass up on the wing room!Have a fun trip
