Can you stay at resorts or do they have to be villas?

Some of the villas don't appeal to me and I really like to try the different hotels. However, when my parents and siblings go we usually book two rooms. We're thinking about DVC but are confused on whether or not you have to just book the villas or if you can stay at hotels. If you can stay at the regular part of the hotel, can you book two rooms at the same time?

DVC is a timeshare, so you stay in the resort you bought or another DVC resort. You are permitted to use your points to stay at non-DVC resorts (for now), but they usually require a lot more points than an equivalent (or better) DVC villa.

Also remember, when you make a reservation at a resort other than a DVC resort, there is a $95 fee for that reservation.

and for your specific example... if you are at a resort that has regular disney rooms as well as DVC rooms... Wilderness Lodge as an example.. Then no you can not use your DVC points to reserve a regular resort room. The DVC rooms are in specific locations and that is what you will get.

So you can use DVC points at non DVC hotels, but you can not use DVC points for a regular room at a resort that has DVC rooms.

However - you can get a DVC room for a usually discounted cash price for the other room and have both rooms be on the DVC side.

just for reference, here is a link to non-DVC point charts.

in short, you can spend 13+ pts per nt to stay in a BCV studio...18+ pts per nt to stay in a moderate hotel room...or 41+ pts per nt to stay in a poly hotel room.

as already stated, there is also a $95 fee to make or change the reservation for the hotel rooms (non-DVC).
