My TA just called AKL directly and spoke with the front desk manager. He told her that AKL is closed to all guests at this time and everyone is being called to be moved. He told her that some guests don't believe it and want to see for themselves so upon arrival they are being moved. Supposedly there is "heavy" construction in the lobby area that is scheduled to be complete at the end of August. He still holds strong to the rumor that guests arriving after Sept. 1 will not be affected.
I told my TA that it seems strange because some posted yesterday that just returned from AKL on the 19th. Hmmmm....seems fishy to me but hey ...I'll roll with it.

I am now very very glad that I accepted a move in advance. Some people may be stuck a resort they would not have otherwise been moved to had they done something in advance. We were in a concierge level room August 5 -7 and were moved to a Polynesian Lagoon View Concierge Room. Not a bad trade, huh?

Yeah I think you should consider yourself one of the lucky ones for sure! Sounds like even if you tell them you want to stay at AKL, once you get there, you are moved anyway. Probably not alot of options at that point either. Ughhhh!

I wonder if Boma will be closed too? We have an ADR there for August 4. I may make another ADR for that day just in case.

The restaurants and marketplace are not scheduled to be closed. They will be business as usual with the exception of possible lighter crowds for the dates affected, which is a good thing for those eating at Boma or Jiko.:)

Well, I for one, am glad to hear this info as I was told the same thing, of course I am still skeptical that the whole resort will be shut down to any guests in August but time will tell as I have an ADR at Bomas.

I requested to keep my ressie at AKL and they said that was fine but when I went to check in they would move me to a resort that was available so it would be best to move now so I have more choices. I will be anxious to see if that really happens to others, that would be quite upsetting. I ended up moving from a pool view AKL to courtyard WL, I am very excited that I won't be in the middle of construction and just a short boat ride away from MK!!

I am struggling with which resort to choose if we do get moved. Frankly...the "guests arriving after Sept. 1 will not be affected" assurances I keep getting don't sit well with me. I am trying to be prepared for if and when I get the call. This is our 1st trip to WDW. I have 2 DD's ages 2 and 4I was leaning towards Poly but now am considering BWI. Ackkkkk!!!!!!!!

We were scheduled to arrive at AKL on 8/31 for a stay through 9/9 and we received the "call" last week. We had a standard room at AKL and have been moved to Garden View at the Poly. Although we were looking forward to staying at AKL (have never stayed there - we are thrilled to be staying at the Poly! Monorail, MK View - 41 days! I can't wait! :goodvibes

I think your TA is pulling one over on you or else the general manager needs to run upstairs and tell the concierge people they are supposed to be closed!! I got a call this AM from the AKL Concierge people (not construction related) about a request for changing some ADR's I had made...they told me the changes were made and assured me once again that we had a savannah view room reserved for check in on 8/2, and that there would not be noticeable impact from the construction...this info fits well with what we have seen from recent trip reports on this board and others that have checked out of the AKL within the last 72 hours...all of whom reported no annoyances from the construction!!

This is just not true...

Well can your TA explain why there were queue's of people waiting on the buses at AKL while we were there for 2 weeks and when I spoke to them they were all staying there. MY inlaws all fly out on Thursday and they've been assured that the hotel is open and they are staying there for 2 weeks starting Thursday.

do you know what type of room they have booked? There really is so much conflicting reports I just wish that disney would make an official statement on this matter. Either way, I have been moved out and will enjoy my stay at WL, but I just want to know what the heck is up! I sure hope your inlaws don't get there and then they move them, I have read a couple of reports of that happening. Good luck to them and I hope they enjoy the sunny Florida weather.

She in fact had no idea any of this was going on until I emailed her with concerns. That is when she called AKL directly and was told this. Not saying I believe what she was told is entirely true because I read a trip report on this board from someone who returned just days ago. I do believe that this is what she was told by someone at AKL though.

Can't say if it is or isn't true. I can only tell you what my TA was told by an AKL employee. I have my doubts as well.

No...she can't. Like I said in an earlier reply, I'm only posting what she was told by Disney. I told her that people on this board were posting very recent trip reports from AKL and others were checking in in the days ahead.
Again...this is what she was told TODAY by someone at AKL.

 Disney really needs to get their act together. Someone is clearly not telling the truth... Not sure whether it is CMs saying AKL will be totally closed or CMs saying 1/2 the resort is unaffected :headache:

Well I would definately NOT believe this one. There are trip reports from people that checked out within the last 3 or 4 days that reliably refute this one.
