Can you sell a contract and still use a ressie on it?

My BIL might sell one of 2 contracts, but has a XMAS ressie on the one wants to sell. Would he sell that contract without those points available to the buyer, but still be able to use them at XMAS? In other words, would selling a contract cancel any existing reservations? TIA.

The way I understand it, you can list a contract for sale but, if it sells, during closing all existing reservations would be cancelled. What some people do is listing it but add that closing would be after a certain date.

on some of those contracts you see listed for sale with a "cannot close until after ______" notation.

I don't think the points can be used if the contract has legally changed hands. Could be that there is a difference in his situation, since he would still have a mambership under the other contract. Don't know.

Once sold all the existing reservations are voided. That is why you see resales with "Can't close until 12/29" or some such on them. That would be after the sellers scheduled trip.

So you can list it as can't close until after your trip, and accept an offer and get all the paperwork up to closing out of the way, but you can't actually close (and so get paid) until after the vacation.

As an afterthought, if he wants to sell now without the points he could try transferring the points to the contract he is keeping and then switch his existing ressie to his existing contract. I'd call member to make sure that can be done without risking losing his Xmas ressie but it should be possible.

You can't transfer reservations between contracts.

To transfer the points, you have to cancel the reservation. Since it's a Christmas reservation, you can count on there being a wait list. You'd lose your reservation in the process.

Even if you had "free" points in the "for sale" contract to transfer, MS would still have to cancel the reservation in the "for sale" contract before it could be booked in the "keeper" contract. Again, good way to lose the reservation.

I suppose if it's a Master & Add-on situation with same home resort, MS could rearrange the points so that they all came out of the same subcontract, but any time you ask MS to do things like that with a "popular" reservation, you take the risk of something getting messed up

IMHO, it's just better to wait to sell if it's important to keep the Christmas reservation. YMMV.

Thanks everyone. He is finding what you are saying. Could not change the points without starting over, and that the ressie is at risk if he closes before then, so he is planning to list with "can't close until Jan" or whatever.
