can you ride the monorail without a park ticket if you don't get off in Tomorrowland?

Er-the question kinda says it all? We arrive at 6ish the first day so aren't going to waste a days ticket on a couple of hours, but can we catch the monorail at DTD and make the full round trip? I'm thinking when we arrive at WDW our first night we always like a trip around Epcot on the monorail and it would be nice to mirror that!

No. Your ticket is scanned before you can get on the monorail. It's very different from WDW that way.

Nope, ticket is required to board...At DL Monorail is more of an attraction than transportation like at WDW.

Aw poo! Never mind, it would have been fun to get us in the mood.
We are doing a 16 day coach tour of California with the last few days at Anaheim, and we arrive in from Santa Barbara around 5-ish. Our last morning before we fly home to England is the morning of 22nd May and we are debating whether to go into the parks or not that morning. Maybe we would be better using the ticket to get in the first evening-does anyone think it will be really hellish on the morning of 22nd May?

A good way to get into the mood without entering the park is a dinner reservation at Goofy's Kitchen which is at the Disneyland Hotel and does not require park admission. Character meal on a non park day is a great way to do it as you can relax and enjoy it and not feel like you are wasting valuable park time!

Wandering around Downtown Disney is fun too. If we arrive early enough the day before our 1st day in the park we always do that. The music and the atmosphere is still very Disney even though you aren't officially in the park yet.

The 21st is the 24 hours of Disney, so the park will be open from 6am to 6am May 22nd. Then be closed for a few hours before they open back up. Park will be packed the afternoon and evening of the 21st, but the morning of the 22nd might not be bad. It is a matter of do you want to do about 5 or 6 hours in the park the first night or a few hours the last morning. All of the 60th celebration will be up on the 22nd. I would go with the first night and enjoy your morning before getting on a plane. But that is just me.

May 22 Friday, is the start of the 24 hour party from 6:00 AM until 6:00AM on Saturday the 23rd. I would expect a large crowd waiting to get in prior to the 6AM opening with a huge crowd in the afternoon and evening
