If you can, is it as fun as going to a MK resort? Anyone know the minimum age to drive? I know my 14 yr. old son would want to, but I kinda doubt that's old enough. Thanks!
I think that you can only rent the boats at the YC&BC. As far as it being as much fun as at the MK lake, it might depend on how long you plan to rent them and if you care that much about the scenery. Your DS probably won't care; he will be into driving them more. Yes, I am pretty sure that he can drive at 14.
You can't really "open 'er up" by Y&BC - the lake's just not that big. I'd head over to a MK resort and rent from there. That way you have 2 lakes to ride in - lot's of room in Bay Lake to drop that throttle and zip around the lakes.
It's a ton of fun! I do not know about the min-age either - but I do seem to recall you did not have to be driving age - so odds are good that your son can drive.
Saw them at YC dock, never saw them in operation over Christmas... little wonder, much better to visit a Magic Kingdom resort for this treat... if he is 12, he/she can go solo in them... the run area is huge near MK resorts and TINY at YC/BC. You might consider a family fast spin in the Yacht Clubs "Breathless"... a vintage wooden speedboat that offers fast rides for up to 7... saw lots of action on this ride...
Thanks for the info! My son will be in hog heaven if he can drive his own! Sounds like renting from a MK resort is the way to go. I'm thinking we could take a break during our day at the MK and walk over to the Contemporary for this activity. I have a feeling my son would be happy doing this for hours!
Ozzel, my dad lives not too far from you in Keystone Heights!
FYI, I understand that GF offers the "Captain's Plan" where you pay for 3 hours and you get 4 hours to use as you wish, during the term of your stay. You can get 4 boats for one hour on one day, or 2 boats for an hour each on two days, etc.
Thanks DancingBear, for that info. I'll have to try and find more info on the cost. Like I said before, I have a feeling if my DS can drive his own this will be the highlight of his trip!
I'm not positive of age...I think it is 12...but the driver has to be 5 feet. This I know because 2 summers ago my son was 4 feet 10 1/2 inches and last summer he was 4 feet 11 1/2 inches and they wouldn't let him drive We even tried at both places YC and from the GF. NO WAY. Thats one rule they stand by and I guess its for your childs own safety....but bummed my son...no less. And if you ride with him, thats what we had to do...it was too slow.
I will say that riding from the MK resorts is better than from the Epcot resorts. So much more room.
I believe that 1/2 hour was aproximately $20 and the hour was about $30. There discounts AP, Amex amd DC
