Can you rent or transfer Holding Points?

I need to clarify if this is allowed or not. We have some that will probably go to waste.

Thanks

If you can find someone who wants a reservation that you can make within the 60 day guideline for holding points you could rent that reservation for them. I don't know if you can transfer points however. There seem to be a number of people looking for reservations on very short notice on the rent/trade board so you might check that out. what is your UY? We are coming up on a very busy time and it may be a little more difficult to get a reservation but I would definitely give it a try rather than lose those points.

Good question and there has been some grey area in the past. If the Holding Points were previously banked they likley cannot be transferred since transferred points can be banked. Even if they are current points, they likely cannot be transferred since they cannot be banked and will expire if unused at the end of your current Use Year.

In the past, a few have reported that they were allowed to transfer Holding Points if they were points from the "current" Use Year. Supposedly, those points would still expire at the end of the Use Year and would still have the "Holding" status. Reportedly though, once transferred, the Holding status disappeared and they could still be banked. At one time there were many seeking transfers of such distressed points (with really low-ball offers) since they knew the points would be morphed into something else (current, bankable points from the contract of the member into whose account they transferred).

My understanding is that this loophole was closed in 1996 when MS returned the transfer policy back to one-per-year and also began a better system for tracking transferred points.

Good luck! :)

Thanks you two. I remembered also that the points were borrowed. So that probably limits any options even more. If we lose them it won't be the end of the world as we got what we wanted (and therefore these points ended up in holding) and that's what's important.

I ended up with 5 holding points for the same reason - a waitlist came through so we didn't have to move the last night of our trip. (Added a night at the end of the trip to take advantage of better airfare and had to waitlist).

Those were the first points we've lost in 10 years, but I didn't mind a bit, LOL. Just thought of them as the price I paid to stay in the same room. :)

Exactly! :) We didn't want to switch resorts, and at just about the last minute they had availability at the one we were at for the next night. And it meant using less points. So we were VERY happy to not have to switch. And just like you, we think of it as the price we paid to stay put-completely worth it.

Still, we have this piddly pile of points that are going to be staring at us for the next 11 months until they expire. lol

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Yes, that bothered me too, LOL. I was so glad when that use year ended and I didn't have to look at them anymore. :rotfl2:
