Yep! It was 1974 and I had just turned 11. My Mum and I were staying with my aunt & uncle & nephew and we had driven down from Pennsylvania. We stayed off site and I can clearly remember being in awe of the huge parking lots & the trams! I had never seen anything like it in my life.. We went over to the MK by boat and saw Donald Duck water skiing!!!
I remember I was so impressed by how it was all done on the one hand and in a make believe world on the other.
I remember Pirates and going down the drop an seeing this huge ship, rising above us
I remember Haunted Mansion and the Hitchhiking Ghost and thinking how do the do that?!?!?!?!
I remember my nephew being terrified of the characters
I remember meeting Peter Pan
I remember the monorail going THROUGH the hotel!
I remember it's a Small World and seeing the English/UK dolls and the Indian and German ones
I remember Mission to Mars and the shaking at the launch
I remember 20.000 Leagues Under the Sea and how the seats moved so that you really felt you were submerging, yet looking up and seeing the water surface.
I remember wanting a treehouse like the Swiss Family Robinson's
I remember wanting to take an Elephant from the Jungle Cruise home with me, and the corny jokes and the temple with snakes and jewels.
Why did it take me so long to go back again...! It wasn't till '96...
Still, I've been almost every year since then, and still have the same sense of wonder and admiration every time I'm there.
