I'm in the market for a new upright vaccuum and I am looking for recommendations. I would like to spend between $150 and $400 and need something that has attachments, is easy to use and does well on the edges. If you have any first hand recommendations, I would love to hear them.

Thanks in advance.

My recommendation is ORECK. I just bought one in March after looking at most of the popular models. I originally wanted a DYSON as I heard so much good about it ... was in Kohl's one day and saw the Dyson there ... well I went over to "test" it and it is sooooo heavy to pick up. :headache: I have 3 sets of stairs I have to vacuum and it was important that the vacuum do an awesome job but had to be lightweight.

ORECK! :thumbsup2

I bought it at TARGET ... I believe it was $299.00

Dyson is the only brand of vacuum I will ever own going forward. I adore my Dyson!

Me, too! I've had mine for over 6 years and never had a moment's trouble with it. It's the purple animal one.

Dyson! Light, moves easily and works better than any other vacuum I've had!

I have a Dyson animal, love that thing. We didn't care about weight, we have 1 level, we also have 2 cats, 2 dogs and 2 kids....LOL We use the Dyson on our hardwood, tile and carpets.

I've had Hoover, Panasonic, Sharp, Eureka and others but my Dyson beats them all.

My biggest complaint is filtering. Dyson has an easy to use and clean filter system and you don't get the dirt all over you when you empty it, which you will do often. We take ours apart and give it a good cleaning every so often and it is easy to do.

All the others I had with "hepa" filters required me to buy new filters which were difficult to find and pretty much useless.

I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond with a 20% off coupon so it was a good price about 5 yrs. ago.

Dyson! Bought the Animal about 3 months ago on Amazon for $375. I have been VERY impressed. I actually like to vacuum now. :rotfl:

Dyson Animal. That machine finds dirt none of my others did (I used to collect vacuums. :sad2:) and is perfect for our two dog and seven cats household. The attachments are easy to use and very convenient. I love the stair attachment. I wanted to stay away from having to buy bags and the canister works out great.

DW purchased a Dyson Animal for me and all I can say is that thing sucks

. up so much hair from her Persian and and other stuff that sometimes I think it manufactures the junk.:thumbsup2

I've had great luck with my Eureka Boss Smart Vac and it is fairly highly rated on Consumer Reports and less than $200. Even higher than any of the Dyson or Oreck vacs.

Hoover Windtunnel Anniversary Edition also came highly ranked.

Dyson did terrible in my house on the corners. And on the no clogging - um mine clogged. I had the pet one and pet hair clogged it. And it wasn't an easy unclog- you had to unscrew the whole thing. And it completely died 3 years in.
HATED IT!

Went back to Oreck- it's light powerful- and cleans those edges!! The only problem is no attachments- they have a small "attachment" type of canister vac that it comes with- well used to come with - now I am not sure they do. My recent one didn't.

Oh though I love it. ORECK!!
