Hi-We are doing family pictures on our trip this fall. We were thinking about doing the pics on the beach at the Poly before our anniversary dinner at Ohana-but I got to thinking about OKW. We are staying there and I am wondering if there is a nice location there that we can do our large group pictures instead??

TIA:goodvibes

If you are planning to have a professional do them, the only way that will be possible is if you hire a Disney photographer at very inflated prices. All the resorts of WDW are under that same rule. I don't blame them either. They want to make sure there isn't something distasteful or of poor quality that might reflect on them.

I know this because we wanted to do something similar a couple years ago. It finally was determined it was too costly, so instead we did our group shot at Epcot and had them fill in the background with our resort (OKW).

We are just taking the pictures ourselves. We decided against Disney's professional photo services.
So mainly what I want to know is about a nice location for a picture at OKW.

I would scope out the main pool area.....where you would have the lush greenery and palms as well as the beautiful white bridge as a backdrop! :thumbsup2

I'd place your subjects near the canal and shoot toward the bridge and HH.

Would buildings show up in the shots? Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions..this is our first trip "home" to OKW, so I am completely unfamiliar with the resort.
:)

In the shot I mentioned, you would get the main pool, Hospitality House building and the row of palm trees and that pretty arched bridge. There would likely be a few guest buidings visible in the distance, but it wouldn't be the focus of the picture.

I'll second Diane's suggestions. Here are a couple of photos to show the background you'd have if taken from near the Peninsular Road bus stop looking across the canal towards the lighthouse and marina area. (Click on the image for a larger view.)

My sis & BIL did some beautiful "self-done" family photos on the beach at BC.

So...you can definitely do something nice yourself. The hard part is having someone there to take the shots so that everybody is in the shot.

Will Disney stop someone from taking pictures with a tripod?

There is a thread somewhere on the DIS of photos taken at various resorts. I don't think they have anything from OKW, but it might give you some ideas.

Thank you :goodvibes We will have a travel tripod with us to take a group shot. Thanks for the visual of the location Webmaster Doc!

Don't you have an Uncle/Aunt/Brother/Sister in the Orlando area who is a professional photographer??
If not, I'm sure you could pay someone who is great with a camera to spend a few hours at your resort with you!

Uncle/Aunt/Brother/Sister being a professional photographer that you find in the phone book or online and quickly bring them into the family! :lmao:

There are a ton of really beautiful tropical spots in and around Old Key West - you could also hop on a boat and head over to Saratoga Springs - photos there with the fountains in the background, or in the garden areas with the nice pergola and fountains would be beautiful!

We hosted a family reunion at OKW a few years ago and we did hire a Disney photographer. (glad we did, my dad passed away a few months later, and the photos are precious memories)

The photographer met us in the lobby and we took individual family pictures with my dad in the den area of the lobby with the book cases in the back ground ..they look very nice.

He then took us outside walking beyond the pool and the play area .. there is a seating area there where our entire family was able to sit for the family picture. We had 16 people in our picture. We do not have any of the OKW buildings in our family picture.

OKW has a lot of beautiful spots for pictures .. even away from the lobby area there are beautiful areas with water/fountains which would be a great back drop for a family photo.

Thank you for your suggestions. And-I am sorry for your loss.

Here's the legal part.

Anyone who takes a picture owns the copyright to that picture. However, the fact that the picture was taken on Disney property, Disney controls how that picture can be used. If they say you can't sell it...you can't sell it. So, that leaves out a professional photographer.

We are aren't using a professional photographer-just a family taking some family pictures.

Thanks again for the location suggestions:thumbsup2
