Hi! My husband and I are considering a non-disney (gasp!) trip to Orlando this fall. Possibly in October. We'd like to do Universal and Sea World this trip. What would you suggest for dates to avoid the crowds. I know Halloween week would probably be out of the question. :)
What would you also suggest for hotels? We would like to not have to rent a car if possible so a hotel with shuttle service to both parks would be great! :thumbsup2 Something clea, decent and in the not-very-expensive range. Maybe $100/night? Including breakfast possibly?

Thanks so much in advance for your advice!! :goodvibes

If I may, I would recommend the Extended Stay America on Palm Parkway (I think it's 8100 Palm Parkway), and also the Extended Stay America on Universal Blvd. (I believe). I'm not positive if any or both of them are deluxes, but have a feeling both are. The one on Palm Parkway is literally less than 1/2 mile to the entrance of Downtown Disney (I would estimate less than 1/2 mile), and the one on Universal Blvd (I think it's that road) is probably 3/4 of a mile to Universal. I'm not sure if there is a shuttle service, but they are close enough to walk if you desire, or definately a cheap taxi ride.

I would suggest you check out the doubletree at the entrance to Universal.

I would suggest you check out the doubletree at the entrance to Universal.

We stayed at The Doubletree at the entrance to Universal last year in June and in July this year we will stay there for 2 days before we go to the RPR and the Doubletree is a nice hotel and they staff is very friendly but the only thing I would suggest you do is go to AAA site and get your room cause if you go to thier site then they want over $200.00 a night and its more than the onsite hotels and thru AAA you can get a standard 2 queen for about $80.00 a night.

Go to Tripadvisor.com and look for hotels near Universal. It gives rates and also reviews from people that have actually stayed there. I'm glad I read those reviews before I actually booked a room. Some of them are pretty scary.:scared1:

We've stayed at Hawthorn Suites Universal in the past and will stay there again in 2 weeks before moving to RPR. It's on Canada Drive, just around the corner from International Drive. Lot's to do within walking distance. Believe they offer shuttle to parks, though we haven't used as we drive. About 6-7 minutes from Universal by car.

Looking at the Hawthorn corporate site, they are offering a 2 bed Queen standard room for a seasonal special of $59 (I used Oct 14th as a test date). We get the 1 bedroom for over $100 for 5 of us. The $59 seems great as it is a nice hotel with pool, hot tub, free hot breakfast and cocktail receptions. Free internet too.
