Hi, Maybe this question has been asked before but we are staying at Poly & friends are staying at BWV, can we go over & hang out with them (or vise versa) at their pool. I was assuming it would be no big deal but all of a sudden thought I remembered reading about ppl being carded at pool. Thanks!!!

Technically no... Pool hopping is only an option for Disney Vacation Club Members... However, if you are with your friends and vice versa, only using your respective pools it should not be an issue. They may ask to see an ID card which one of you could provide so there would be no problem (they don't expect everyone in the party to bring their ID's to the pool).

This topic has been brought up a couple of times before and will no doubt bring out many strong opinions against the practice of pool-hopping. The resort pools are supposed to be for resort guests only, people paying for deluxe resorts should get deluxe pool areas. CM's will ask for ID cards during busier times of the year and almost always at Stormalong Bay at the YC and BC. It is a shame they have to do this, but there will always be people who try to take advantage and stay at a value resort and use the deluxe pools.

When we stayed at the WL in March 2003 they checked everybody's ID one day. I had to get out of the pool - which I didn't mind. If you didn't have it you had to go get it. This may not happen all the time.

We went to swim with some friends who were staying at teh Boardwalk (we were at POFQ) - but we chose to swim in the quiet pool rather than the special one. Our kids just wanted to swim together, we weren't trying to get something for nothing. Noone asked us for any id, but there was a sign at the entrance to the main pool stating that id was required.

disneymania,
If your friends are DVC members, have the pool hop over to Poly.

The Yacht and Beach Club (Storm-along-Bay) and the Animal Kingdom Lodge check ID's on a daily basis... Other than that the other hotel pools generally will only ask for ID's if the pool is really busy. Pool hopping is frowned upon (unless you are a DVC member, which allows that) as stated because the pools are there for those that are paying to stay at the hotel... but in your case I personally don't see an issue, you want to swim with your friends and vice versa...

IF I FIND A POOL HOPPER IN THE RESORT I'M PAYING MY HARD EARNED MONEY FOR I'LL RIP THEM TO SHREADS. I'LL TAKE THEM AND BEAT THEM TO A PULP. I'LL EAT THEIR HEADS OFF AND THEN EAT THEM AGAIN. I'LL CHEW THEM AND BEAT THEM AND THEN I'LL SAY PLEASE DON'T STAY AT THIS POOL. GO PLAY AT THE POOL YOU PAID FOR YOU EVIL EVIL PERSON. YOU ARE THE MOST EVIL PERSON IN THE WORLD TO DO SUCH A TERRIBLE THING. I DON'T KNOW WHY YOUR KIND IS EVEN ALOUD TO WALK THE EARTH. HOW EVIL YOU ARE.

For those of you who know me and think I'm going crazy. I'm just having fun with the whole pool hopping thing. In all seriousness I personally don't think it is right, but hey it's not the worst think a Diser can do.

God Bless

Thanks for the feedback. Guess we'll try it & see if anyone says anything. Maybe we'll go later in the evening when crowds aren't a problem. By the way, they aren't DVC members.

This is another one where the policy has changed. (kinda like the refillable mugs, don't go there :) ) Back in the day, Disney used to allow pool hopping...if you were a guest on Disney property, one of the "perks" was you were able to use pools at all of the various resorts. This has changed, though, with the expansion of Walt Disney World, especially the resort rooms, and now I think they are pretty strict about only using the pool at the resort where you are staying, unless you are a DVC member, or staying at a "sister" resort. I believe the sister resorts include the All-Star hotels (I'm not sure if Pop Century is included or not??), the Port Orleans resorts, and the Yacht and Beach Club. Any others?

Wow, alright... I agree though. Don't be one of those people. Respect the people who pay for the hotel.

Even for DVC members, there are some restrictions to pool hopping, including no hopping to SAB or AKL. During peak times, even DVC members are not allowed to pool hop at all. During times when it is allowed, DVC members are supposed to call the resort they want to "hop" to and see whether it is too busy or not. If it becomes busy while there, they can be asked to leave.

We have started staying at the Beach Club for our Disney vacations and I would be very upset if they let guests staying at other resorts or visitors use the pool. We budget the money to stay there and we are paying for the extra ammenities - and because we are doing that - I expect chairs and the pool not to be crowded with people not staying there. When we stayed there they were checking ID's and I must say I was glad to see that.
