Hello, my family and I are heading to WDW in April. We are staying offsite; not at a Disney hotel. Can I link a Disney gift card to my My Disney Experience account? Just thinking of using the mobile order for food/snacks and would like to link a gift card instead of a credit or debit card.

On or offsite does not matter. You cannot l inke a gft card.
You also cannot use mobile order with a gift card.
Link your credit card if you wnat to mobile order or wait in the line to order if you want to use a gift card.

Editing to correct: We were on the dining plan last time so our mobile order just took credits. I didn't realize it didn't charge back to the room. You have to charge to your room and THEN apply the gift card after you can't do it first. Thank you to those who clarified this.

You can't link a gift card. However, if you are staying onsite, you can go to the front desk and have them apply gift card amounts to your account. Then when you charge back to the room, it takes the money off the gift card first before charging your card. We did this on our last trip. We only had a couple hundred in gift cards, so we did use the credit card on file. However it did apply the gift card balances before charging our card.

But they want to mobile order which goes directly onto the linked credit card not charged to your room. Besides OP is not staying onsite.
I also thought you could not put a gift card on file at the front desk ahead of time. I thought you had to charge to your room and then apply the gift cares in person after the fact.

You can't put a gift card as credit against room charges. If you want to use a gift card, it has to either be used at POS or applied at the front desk to charges already applied to the room.

Nope, you can't.

So you have to charge it to your magic band first, then take it to the front desk before check out? We did it the 4th day of our stay. I guess we could have racked up a couple hundred dollars by then. We were on the dining plan (free dining) and paying tips. We hadn't bought any souvenirs yet. I guess I didn't think about not being able to do it first since we didn't try.

It still worked out the same. It paid off the tips/souvenirs without charging the credit card associated with the room, but thank you for clarifying. I had that on my to do list for arrival night for our next trip. I'll slide it to the middle of the trip again.

Yes. You'll want to pay at the front desk before day 5, as that is the first day they now send charges to your credit/debit card. So if you want to pay off room charges with cash or gift cards, you need to do it on day 4 and day/night before check out.

Great! Thank you!

OKay.... so thanks to the search function this was the question I was curious about, its now May 2021, can we link gift cards to our account or do we still have to show up at the front desk and apply the gift cards to our account?

What I've done is over the past year, every payday I've used my red card to buy gift cards to cover food costs. So now I have a stack of gift cards. With all the mobile order during this covid times, I want to pay using all of these gift cards, but do I have to apply them to our account at the hotel desk and as the charges accrue they deduct the balance. NOt sure if anything has changed..........

You can't link a gc. You can't charge mobile ordering back to your room. You can't add them to your room account, still only pay the balance.

You can pay for mobile order with a gc, but the gc has to be added every time you order. It's suggested you keep the number in a note so you can copy and paste it each time you order..

You can also combine them on disneygiftcard.com up to $1k on each card, it's much easier. But that site isn't a wallet.

Thanks for the info....WHAT A GREAT TIP, I would never have thought about putting the gift card number in the notes app on phone then just copy and paste....

I text the GC number to the family so they each have a copy of it to use when using mobile ordering through the app.

Thanks for these awesome tips!! I had no idea you could use a gift card to pay when using the mobile order feature. This is awesome news!! Got my GC #‘s ready to go for my trip in July.
