Can you get a fastpass if your park ticket didn't go through the turnstiles YET?

Our next Disney trip is Feb '07, President's week. It's me, sister, her son, and our brother. I go to Disney LOTS, they don't. I'm expecting large crowds and want to make the best use of our time. I thought of two scenarios, but don't know if they would work.

On one day we're going to Animal Kingdom, then when it closes, hopping to Epcot, hoping to ride Soarin. I've done it lots, they never have riden it. But, the fastpasses will probably be gone for the day by the time we get over there, and I don't want to stand in a 2 hour line.

Then I thought, hey, I've seen Animal Kingdom a ton of times. Wonder if I could leave them in AK, take all four of our tickets, JUST me hop to Epcot, grab some Soarin fastpasses, and meet back up with the family to finish up AK. Then we'd all head to Epcot later and ride Soarin with the fastpasses.
But then I got to wondering, can I get Soarin fastpasses if their tickets have only been "scanned" at Animal Kingdom that day?

Then, I took it a thought further. We're staying at Boardwalk (I'm a DVC member), and hoping for some pool time, weather permitting. I don't really care about the pool. Could they spend a morning at the pool, and I take all four of our tickets, JUST me go to Epcot midmorning, and get us Soarin fastpasses for later that afternoon? But only MY ticket would have been scanned that day. Can I get Soarin fastpasses for them, if their tickets haven't been scanned YET that day?

Thanks for any help. Just trying to make the most of our limited time!

Actually, I think you can since they have already been scanned at AK. But for the second scenario it would not work since only one ticket would have been used for admission.

I think the tickets have to be scanned into the computers at the actual park. This is what happened to us...

We went to AK one morning, left later that morning, went back to our resort (BC) then went to EPCOT. One of my daughters' APs didn't scan at EPCOT, but they just let her through, and told us to get her a new AP when we had the chance. I didn't think anything of it until we tried to get FPs, and hers wouldn't work. It worked at AK, but not at EPCOT...

I don't know if it was because they didn't enter it into the system at EPCOT, or if it just wasn't working at all, anywhere.

We had the same experience as Schmeck did. DD's pass would not scan at the gate and they just let her in. We could not get a fastpass with her ticket.

Hi to a fellow Savannahian! The tickets won't work unless you put them through the turnstiles at the parks. Sometimes (and really I mean SOMEtimes) you can get the cm at the turnstiles to run them through the gate for you, depending on how busy they are at the moment if you explain what you are trying to do.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I didn't think my second scenario would work, but really hoped the first one would, since the tickets would be scanned at AK. Oh well.

Kirsten's Mommy - Hi to another Savannahnian as well! Thanks for that suggestion!

If you have a ticket that just doesn't work, you can get a Fastpass Key Card (CMs at the FP machines have them.) It says it only works in that park and is date-stamped. All over the place it says "Not valid for admission." You can't get more than one FP at a time with it...I tried. :)

But if it is just a ticket you never ran through the turnstyles, and it is a good ticket, the FP machine will print out a slip saying that it isn't any good.

The CMs can tell the difference between a valid ticket that just doesn't work and one that just hasn't been used.
