Can you flag down a MEARS taxi or do you have to book?

Hi

I am going next week and our first proper day is at Seaworld, when we have finished there I want to go for dinner on I-Drive somewhere. Would I need to book a Mears taxi in advance or are they just around, sorry if silly question but have always had a car in the past.

cheers

Nicky

From hearing a few problems with taxis in Orlando on here I would book one in advance :thumbsup2

Or you could use the I-Ride. There's a stop at SeaWorld.

If I remember rightly though there's a taxi rank right outside SeaWorld. We never had to flag a taxi down last month as there was always a taxi rank where we went.

We stayed at the Pop and POR last month, there were always plenty of Mears taxis waiting onsite. The drivers all had their own cards and so if we needed a taxi when we were 'offsite' we would give one of them a call and usually they were able to come and collect us :)

Thanks everyone
Just I am travelling on my own with my 2 daughters so very safety conscious.Another silly question with taxis, Will they actually go through the front of seaworld and drop outside or is there a back way in? Also same question for Universal as will be getting taxis there.

Also if I have the number of the MEARS taxi (I am only quoting them as I have read that they are disney choice and I want to travel with recognised and recommended taxis) can I just dial their number from my phone or is there a special code I need to put in first, never used my mobile over there before

You can tell I am starting to get a bit anxious can't you

The taxi will drop you off in the car park close to the entrance for SW. We asked them to point out the spot for taxis on the way out too.

Regarding safety, each taxi has a number written on the dashboard on the right hand side (I think it corresponds to the number on the roof of the taxi too) so that each driver is identifiable by his number. Most drivers will give you a card with their number, we had a lovely guy called Rene, who we felt very comfortable with, so we kept his number and rang him a few times to pick us up from various places :)

i do not think you are allowed to flag down a taxi, think i read this somewhere on here, but like other posters said, i would book it as have read some dodgy stories lately

I would book through mears for all travel arrangements, safer option. You can easily phone them from pay phones on the park quit cheap.

when we went to international drive from disney we got a taxi at our hotel but comming back we just went to the closest hotel and used the reception phones to order a yellow cab.It was so handy and safe.comming back from universal there is a pile of them at the exit and a stand you go to where the man will tell you which taxi to go to.we have never taken a car and have never had any problems .hope this helps
