Can you exchange Disney Dollars for cash at resorts?

I have been accumulating Disney Dollars each paycheck to save for my upcoming trip. If I need some cash for things *gasp* offsite can I exchange them at Guest Services?

I'm not 100% sure, but I THINK I remember that Disney Dollars cannot be exchanged for cash. They want you to spend them in WDW!!!!!

You can do a couple of things:

1. When we go to the Disney Store for Disney Dollars, we usually get $10 bills. That way, when we are at WDW, we can buy something for say $2.50 and we get the change back in cash.

2. If you have your receipts from your Disney Dollars, I think you can "exchange" them at Guest Services for cash. I'm not 100% sure though. Maybe someone else can verify this for you....

On page 328 in the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2005 it says, "Disney dollars can also be exchanged one-for-one with U.S. currency, but only while you're in Disney World. Also, you need your sales receipt to exchange for U.S. dollars." I'm not sure if this is the current policy but I hope this info was helpful.

i read another post sometime back, about putting disney dollars down instead of a credit card for charging to your room key. it stated that if you had money remaining, you would get back cash. is this true?

You can definitely exchange left over disney dollars for cash at your resort or any guest service counter at any park. You can also put Disney Dollars, cash or Travelers Checks down to be able to charge to your room. You do not need a receipt.

We just did this last month at Epcot, in the camera center.
