What do you eat at WDW?

I thought that I would get some ideas, way...way in advance before my Walt Disney World visit.

I know that I could probably just eat meats, some salads, but I don't know how I can do without a Mickey Mouse Ice Cream bar. Or other special treats for dinner.

For breakfast, it seems easier with eggs and meats, etc..

What about buying snacks at WDW on Atkin's Diet?

And dinner is usually my big meal at one of the parks restaurants or resorts restaurants(meats, salads).

As some of you will be going to WDW, will you please make a mental note of where and what you ate at the WDW restaurants or counter services or snacks and post them here as Atkin's friendly foods and restaurants.

Here is a link to low-carb ideas from "Deb Wills" web site on what to eat at Walt Disney World.

Here is another link to all the Walt Disney World restaurant menus from "Deb Wills" web site to see what is available at the parks and resorts.

What is your experience at these Walt Disney World park and resort restaurants?

Tell all of us where you ate?

And what did you eat to stay on the Atkin's Diet?

If you know the carbs, list them, too. Maybe you could ask the chef.

Maybe we can start a list or database of each restaurant of what to eat, and how to pck and choose a meal that will allow us to stay on the Atkin's Diet.

I don't know if it is possible without cheating, but I am willing to try.

If you are going to WDW, and you try to eat the Atkin's Diet way, less than 20 carbs. per day; then please tell us your experience.

Thank you in advance.

Best wishes and encouragement, RaySharpton:)

The Wilderness Lodge's Whispering Cafe might be a good place to eat a bunch of meats, and salad. I don't know about other vegetables though. I guess the sauce might be suspect, too.

Here is some of the menu:

Buffalo Wings - hot and spicy chicken wings served with bleu cheese dressing and celery sticks $5.99

Spicy BBQ Shrimp - grilled shrimp served with tomato salsa $7.99

Valley Greens - mixed greens tossed in apple vinaigrette dressing with tomatoes, cucumbers and onions $4.99

Our Famous Canyon Skillet
All You Care To Eat
$21.99 per person
Start with mixed greens with apple vinaigrette dressing, fresh baked corn bread and biscuits. Move on to smoked pork ribs, canyon pulled pork, oven-roasted chicken, pork sausage, beef stew, roasted red bliss potatoes, baked beans, cole slaw and corn on the cob.

I don't know about the marinades but 'Ohana certainly does have a lot of meat!!! :teeth: I do not follow a low-carb diet but I would imagine this place would work pretty easily.

I would think that anything that says 'BBQ' means 'sugar'.

I would also wager that the apple vinaigrette has sugar.

For the canyon skillet you'd probably be safe with
mixed greens [ask for a sugar free dressing] , smoked pork ribs,[as long as there isn't any rub or sauce that could have sugar in it] canyon pulled pork, oven-roasted chicken, pork sausage.

It sounds like you are doing exactly what I'm doing. I've been looking at the menus to plan the most "Atkins friendly" places to eat. And making sure I at least have something to eat where ever we go. We're going the 1st week in July and I'm so excited, but I want to do as good as I can with my eating.

I heard of sugar free cheesecake on the Boardwalk. And I hope to find sugar free ice cream. But this may not be good for under 20 carbs. I will not be doing induction at WDW, just trying to stick as close as I can to the program.

I think Becka has a great idea about 'Ohana!... All-you-can-eat meat! How about a turkey leg at the MK? You could surely get cheeseburgers without the buns and have some lettuce and tomatoes on it. Alot of the sit down places have salads and you could ask for them to remove any toppings that are carb-laden and have them bring you blue cheese dressing. I am not doing Atkins, so I wish I could be of more help to you, Ray!

Here is my 2 cents....FORGET ABOUT IT!!!! You are on vacation...you need to enjoy. Yes you should not GORGE on Carbs. But you should not feel guilty about what you want to eat. I am sure almost all of us have spent plenty of time feeling guilty about what we put in our mouths....so on vacation...let loose and enjoy!!

I'm pretty sure if you want a dessert ina restaurant there you can tell them no sugar and they can get it for you. For instance - I remeber reading a thread about the ice cream social - one of the partcipants was a diabetic, they let the cooks know ahead of time and they had the best table spread for them- all with lEGAL things a diabetic can eat. I was so impressed with that! So, when I go, I'll let them know ahead of time I'm diabetic (Because I am) nad see what they can come up with!! I wonder if they would do the same with no carb?

Ray,

You may want to try the "DIS Menu Database" . You can search by food types. :)

I think a list is a great idea! Maybe we can ask that it be added to the DIS Menu Search!!
