Can you change your resort after the discount rate expires

We have a reservation in August at CSR with a discount promotion that ended in March. We have decided that we would rather stay at French Quarter.

Has anyone had any success switching resorts and keeping the room only discount after the promotion has ended? How should I go about requesting a change?

I did it just last week. We had a 2 night reservation at POR which I booked for May with the % off promo that had already ended. We decided last week that we wanted to stay at the CBR the entire time. (We were checking into the CBR after our 2 night stay at POR.) I called Disney Travel and told them that I wanted to switch resorts but only if I could keep my % off. They told me that it would be no problem and made the change for me. I was able to keep the % off and the reservation number even remained the same.

I am notorious for switching resorts.:rotfl: Several times I've been able to switch after a promo ends, but twice I couldn't. It depends on if there are any more rooms available at your desired resort under that code. Disney opens up only so many rooms at each resort for each promo. Even after that promo ends, there may or may not be some rooms left in that number that were not booked. If all the rooms that were alotted for that particular promo were not booked at your desired resort, then you can make the change. Usually we've not had a problem, but twice we were told that there were no more rooms available under the code we had booked under. We either had to book under a different current code or else switch to another resort that still had rooms available under the expired promo we had used. The two resorts we've had trouble switching to were a standard room at CSR (could get a King though:confused3) and POFQ.

Just call CRO and tell them you would like to switch to POFQ, but only if you can use your current discount. The CM will check to see if they have any rooms left at POFQ under that promo.

So.. if you need to change your resort after the ressie has been made and a deposit paid, you may be able to keep the discount if rooms with the discount are available? I have a reservation at CR with free dining, but I have to switch to a moderate.

I'm super frustrated with my travel agent- I recently had to make a resort change, but have been waiting (over a week now) to hear what is available. I sent her my preferences and all I've heard back is that I won't lose my deposit and that she'll get back to me. I'm not good at waiting and I am really needing to know just how much this is going to cost me-

I don't know if the delay is because the news is bad or because she simply has better things to do.

Maybe I should be looking for a new travel agent too?

Yes, you can switch resorts and keep your discount if there is availability under the promo at the resort you want to change to :). What you mentioned about your TA is one of the reasons I prefer booking on my own. I like being able to call Disney and make any changes myself rather than rely on someone else to do it ;). Good luck and I hope you hear some good news soon :wizard:.

I change resorts so much I always job that I am lucky I have a room when I get down there. :rotfl2: can do change over night but so far I have keep it for a week, but I am going away in December so anything can still happen. Good luck on your change :)

I also have a free dining reservation for late August at CSR that I tried to change to FQ and I am unable to. I wanted to add on a few more days and change resorts and was told that it was "blacked out" :confused3

I think my problem is that it is a reservation that I originally had last August and I had to cancel the vacation last minute, so rather than lose $200 off of the package, I just rebooked it for this August without penalty.

Does anyone know if you can "downgrade" a reservation, or do the same rules apply, only if there is availability?

We are usually DVC, but are out of points and I was thinking of trying to move to ASM and upgrading the dining. I need 4 more nights. I made a cash reservation at ASM for the remaining days that I need, but it would be nice to just have free dining for the entire stay, but that would mean moving from a mod to a value, and I don't even know if it will be allowed since my reservation is originally from last year.

I will be making some phone calls today to see if I can get my vacation transferred to another agent or agency entirely. The young lady is very nice, but I think she may be too busy.. it's my own fault really, I used this agent the last time we vacationed in WDW and had some of the same frustrations- just not to this extent. Everything worked out in the end, so when she contacted me about another vacation, I just went ahead and let her begin the process.

Ohhh.. I'm so keeping my fingers crossed. Losing free dining at this point will really mess up the works!

Thanks for your well wishes- I'll keep you all informed!
