Hi

Does anybody know that if you do not like the resort you are at for any reason will Disney move you to another resort thats available as long as its either the same price or lower then that which you have paid?

Before people start judging or flaming me thinking im going to complain before i even arrive ill explain why i wanted to know.

We have booked at SSR and its been a worry of mine for a while now that my oldest son will not like this resort because of
1.the size of the place
2.the fact that its a villa style and not a hotel room
3.he likes things he is used to and has stayed at some of the other resorts more. and he wont think its Disney enough.

Our son has AS we have stayed at POP 2 times and he LOVED it,we have also stayed at AKL and he also LOVED this place but still asked to go back to POP to visit throughout the 3wk trip.

I booked SSR as when i was on the phone to the CM discussing where to stay she talked me into SSR! Now after a yr of reviewing the place and with our sons AS having got at least 40% worse over the last yr its made me very worried!
Im hoping he will love the place but im not sure he will like the horse theme he also really dislikes flowery patterns which is why other resorts are ruled out.I have showed him loads of pictures and right now he is ok and excited for his trip next yr (he doesnt know its this yr but unlike some other children with autism he handles surprises very very well)

I was just wondering if he ends up hating the place and not settling wether we could move to a resort he knows and loves if they have room.I would even settle for losing money and going to POP if it makes him happy! I dont want to change everything right now as he loves Disney quest and i know we are only 10 min walk to DTD from SSR another reason i picked SSR as he is addicted to computer games and can spend hours at DQ so this would make things easier as we can pop their most days without eating into park time.

Anyways just wanted to know if ANYBODY else for what ever reason has moved resorts and was it simple process and is it even allowed.

Thanks from a worrying mum :)

I think you should show some pictures of SSR to your son and see if he likes the place. You said your son has AS? Forgive me, but what is AS? How old is your son? I would go with POP and/or AKL again if that is his favorite resort.

We've disliked the last two resorts we stayed at (nothing wrong with the resorts, just started getting home sick for the Poly) It was no problem to change mid-trip. I paid the difference in resort prices and they transferred our luggage and us with no hassle at all. It all depends on availability though.

On one of my trips I booked 4 nights at POP using a CM discount and after the first 2 nights decided it wasnt for me...uncomfy beds, noise, busy etc and happened to be touring some of the mods and immediately fell in love with POFQ...as soon as I got back to POP the staff at the front desk were able to move me over to POFQ for the remaining 2 nights no problem - I was even allowed to keep the CM discount but paid the difference for the "upgrade" for remaining two nights.

You can probably go out to YouTube and pull up some videos of the resort... that might help too.

Here's my honest take on it, if you are already questioning your decision, you probably made the wrong decision. And I say that because I am one of those people!! I keep questioning where we are going to stay next June. I keep justifying why we shouldn't go back to the GF.... price, no discount yet, etc. Truth is, every place we pick, we seem to say "it's not the GF".

Point is, stick to what you love. Otherwise, you'll always keep saying "but it's not as good as _____". Who wants to spend your trip like that? I would consider POP or AKL again and switch your reservations.... whatever you choose, I hope you have a great trip !! :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 I agree!

If the trip is for your son, I think you should stay somewhere you know he likes, especially if the trip is a surprise and you can't consult him first. My son is also Asperger's so I can understand how your son's reaction to the resort can totally make or break a trip. On our last trip to WDW we took the buses around and toured about ten of the resorts. He really liked the quiet feel of OKW, so that's where we're staying this time.

We stayed at SSR and were unhappy. We were able to move no problem. The CMs at SSR were great and helpful.

If you want to read the thread on here where I get flamed for the move its called Live from SSR and I hats it.

Yes.We did it. We didn't like the Poly. Switched to CR,and we got money back because it was cheaper:)

Depending upon when you go, you may or may not be able to move. I WOULD NOT COUNT ON BEING ABLE TO DO SO. I'm happy whereever I am at WDW but GF and her family booked Pop, got there and missed WL--they were told no other rooms on property available except some @ $1K/night. Last December checking it at AS Music there was a family that was very unhappy and wanting to move. There were told no other openings anywhere on property. Another time at POR I was at the front desk asking something when a family from NO LA pulled in. They had driven all night, 3 adults and two kids to go to WDW--w/o and ressies. CMs were doing the best they could, but showing no rooms available anywhere.

None of these events took place over the holidays or during the summer.

As PPers have suggested, if you know where your son is content, that could be the best option.

Hi AS is Autism spectrum disorder we shorten it to AS, He is 9 "his 10th bday is the day we fly"
I have 2 other children who i know will love the resort plus my mum and Dh

If he ends up hating the resort it could be a real rough 15 nights!

Like i mentioned in my OP ive shown him loads of photos of the resot and also plenty of videos from you tube...Right now he is very excited for his trip and to stay at SSR My issue is if he ends up completly disliking the place i wanted to know if we could move resorts.

I dont want to move the resort yet as he may end up loving the place plus he really enjoys DQ which we would be much nearer to if we stay at SSR. Plus he will have his own space as we have booked a 2bed.

We have also booked 2 nights at AOA and Im thinking if he hates the resort and their is availbility then we would switch to here as POP is over the bridge if not then id take AKL again if available.:)

I think i already read that thread :lmao: I was completly shocked by the responce from people!!
Im so pleased you ended up having a great stay in the end :thumbsup2 and Im just pleased to know we can move if there is avaliability! :)

Hi thanks for replying
My issue isnt wether we will enjoy the place I know i will!
Its the fact that if my son who is autistic finds HE does not like the place it could make for a horrid vacation.....I want him to try new places thats why i booked i have also shown him many pictures and videos of the place and he really likes it BUT recently he has said how he HATES flowery patterns and is not keen on horses (We did not have issues with these when i booked)

So this is why i needed to know that if the problem arrises i will; be able to move to a different resort with no problems of course of there is rooms :)

Yes in hind sight this is what i would have done i would have booked AKL again as our stay their was out of this world (even if he did ask to visit pop again)
Im so close to going now that im scared to just change everything incase he ends up liking the place I mean he is quite high functioning "just not on everything" Its actually Asperger's my son has along with a few other issues,I have 7 yr old twins so its hard as the trip is not just for him!! Of course they understand that if Brandon wants it one way then thats the way it will be although its not easy on them being so young and they really like the look of this place! which is why im inclined to try it and then change if we have to

Are you booked under any kind of promotion? Room availability under promotions differs than general room availability, as they only allot a certain number of rooms per resort for any promotions that are out. If you are booked under a promo, you may have to pay the difference to move to a resort if they can't get you in under the same promo. Which they probably wouldn't be able to. If you are able to move, I would think you'd end up owing money versus losing money, even if you downgraded resorts. At that point you'd be paying rack rate also, which can be high.

I know what you mean. We stayed at the Poly last year and we have reservations for CBR now. I'm afraid I'm going to want to go to the Poly. It is my favorite now. I hope I wont say "hey lets go to the Poly" once we get there :rotfl:

If your biggest concern is your ds,and how he will like something, then you should just book what you know works for you,and you won't have the stress. I don't see why you would do anything else...I wouldn't want that worry!:thumbsup2

This happened to us on our first trip as a family back in July 2005. We booked POR and we didn't like it because it was so spread out. When we tried to be moved to a Deluxe we were told that there were no rooms because they were holding them for guests who were in the Keys and a hurricane was coming.

Didn't think that was right since we were there now and wanted to pay for an upgraded resort. So ended up staying at POR.

Long story short we learned a lesson and will only book what we like for now on, Deluxe or Deluxe Villa.

Good luck to you. I hope your son has a terrific time no matter where you end up staying.:wizard:

It happened to us once. We had stayed at the GF the first year and the next year we thought we would try to make it a budget trip and stay at POR. As soon as we saw the room we knew it wasn't for us. DH went over to the GF and we were able to keep our AP discount (of course paying the difference between POR and GF) and they switched all the luggage for us.

If another resort has availability it won't be a problem.

Good luck!
