I really like Italian Wedding soup & would love to make some, however, I was wondering if you can buy this mini meatballs that go in it or if I really have to make them.

I have never seen them in the store (not that I've looked very hard), but it would be much more convenient if I could just purchase them pre-made.

Not to mention, while my family loves my meatballs, I'm just not a fan of homemade meatballs, even mine. Strange, I know, but it just reminds me too much of meatloaf, which makes me gag!

I've only seen the small meatballs you would use for an appetizer. I have used them in my Italian Wedding Soup before. I cut them in half. Now I just make a bunch of small meatballs whenever I make regular meatballs and freeze them in a baggie. That way, I only have to make them about once every 2 months.

Is Giant Eagle a store or a brand name?

Giant Eagle is a grocery chain that I think is only in Western PA and Ohio (maybe just eastern Ohio). The small meatballs are manufactured under their own brand. I do think I have seen other brands though. They are in the freezer section usually near the frozen sauce, garlic bread, frozen pasta and larger meatballs.

I use them all the time for wedding soup.

Thanks. I'm in Western New York. Our main grocery store is Wegmans. They carry a lot of different things, so I'll have to check it out.

If you have a Smart & Final near you, they sell a half ounce meatball that might work.

I have made them by hand before. I just made a huge amount, froze them on cookie sheets then transferred the yummy little bundles to a Zip-Loc for storage and would pop a few into the pot of soup as I cooked it.

Lately I have been over the moon over Giadi De Laurentiis' meatball recipe from the following link. I am always on the lookout for a more perfect recipe and this one is just amazing. The only change I made was I don't put the cheese in the middle, it adds way too many calories.

I've never seen them in Wegmans; I just have to make my own.
PITA~ but worth it :)

Good luck finding them !
If you do; could you let us know where?

Thanks :)

We buy ours at a small, local, Italian food store. DO you have something like that?

My MIL cuts regular sized meatballs either in half or quarters.

we just buy the cocktail meatballs and chop them up.... unless we're having company... then my wife will make them.

They might be a little big, but IKEA sells good, smallish meatballs (and warm cinnamon buns!) :goodvibes
