Can you buy Disney Dollars with Disney Store GCs?

I have recently signed up for an Alaska Airlines card and if you shop through their mall, you not only get the points for using their card but also just for shopping through the mall. I was thinking I could buy GCs (there is nothing I saw in the TOS for the mall that you would not get credited for GC purchases) and then use the cards to buy my DD or even the annual passes at the store so I can maximize my return to my mileage account.

Does anyone know if you can?

Thanks!

You'll need to call your local DS to see what the managers says. IF the manager says you can do this then write down their full name for any problems later. Most DSs will not let you use GCs to purchase Disney Dollars....the passes should be no problem.

I have done this for the same reasons and had no problem when using a plastic Disney gift card. However, I did have a problem at first trying to use a web certificate (redeemed from MyPoints) with the Mastercard # on it. I had to use the webcertificate to purchase a Disney Gift Card through snail mail. Then, I took the plastic Disney Gift card to my local Disney Store and bought the Disney Dollars with no questions and without a problem.

You CAN buy passes or DD $$ with gift cards. It is merchandise credits that must be used for product only. At one time, you could not use the gift cards for passes or DD, hence the confusion. If refused, just stay calm and ask for a manager.........

Thanks so much. I want to rack up as many FF miles as I can. More WDW trips for me that way. :)

I work at TDS and recently my mom (not knowing any better) bought a gift card for my daughter (turning 19) to "use in WDW". Well I know that doesn't fly but I asked one of my asst mgrs about using it for DD and she said that it was a no. Is there an SOP on this? I would love to get DD for her... being her age there isn't much she wants at the store.

Thanks~

yes, there is an SOP re buying disney $'s (& passes) with a GC ~ it is allowed (like pat said, NOT with merch credit cards).

The Disney Store in Colorado (Park Meadows Mall) said I can't buy Disney Dollars with a gift card. Should I call some central customer service to clarify?

I went to TDS today to buy Disney Dollars with a gift card and was told I couldn't.

My childs godfather bought a Gift Card by mistake. The kids wanted the Disney Dollars, he took it back to the store and they gave him the DD with no questions asked! I also did this once before and it was no problem. I think they need to clarify this problem.

Disney dollars are money spendable only at Disney, ie Disney stores, WDW, Disneyland, etc. The advantage is that you can turn in regular money for Disney money and therefore cannot spend it! We gave our kids Disney dollars on our last trip for any souvenir purchases they want to make. They come in $1, $5, and $10 and can be used nearly everywhere in WDW, the parks, hotels, restaurants, shops, even carts took them when we were there in '02. We also saved one for our WDW scrapbook.

Some Disney stores will trade back to regular money with a receipt, and some won't so if you get them, be sure to cash out any leftovers in WDW before leaving.
