Can you bring sandwiches into the parks??

I'm totally addicted to this forum! Our family is headed back to the Fort the end of March, 2009, for an eleven night stay. My husband and I were there last spring for a week (as well as many trips years ago when the kids were small!), but we're bringing the whole family this time - including a grandaughter. Last year I brought my little "Old navy" backpack in all the parks with my granola bars and bottled water. Does anyone know if it's permissable to bring in sandwiches for snacks as well? I remember they checked our bags upon entry, but don't know what they were all looking for. We'd like to have lunch along so we can eat on our way back to the Fort around 1:00 p.m. or so - before grandaughter's nap time. We hate to have to leave them in a locker. Also, can you bring your lunch and drinks to the water parks, such as Typoon? Thank you!

We take sandwiches all the time with us into the parks so we don't have to come back to the camper for lunch. Yes they allow you to take food in. Also the water parks will let you bring in a cooler with food and drinks! Have fun on your upcoming trip!

LOL! We take frozen juice bags and water bottles, ham and swiss wraps on tortillas, lays potato chips in a can, cookies in an empty Lays chip can, Jelly beans, granola.....

Yes.....the bag checkers laugh at us but Miss Picky Pants can't be expected to eat restaurant food

We brought in cans of soda last time as well as snacks. We saw a number of people as well sitting and eating lunch. Here's the official answer of what you can't bring in from Disney (notice food is not on the list!)

Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the Theme Parks?

A. Items that you may not bring into the Theme Parks include, but are not limited to:

Items with wheels, such as wagons, skateboards, scooters, inline skates, shoes with built-in wheels, two-wheeled or three-wheeled conveyances, strollers larger than 36" x 52", suitcases, coolers, or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high (coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations), and any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
Alcoholic beverages
Weapons of any kind
Folding chairs
Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
Pets (unless they are service animals)
In Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park (for the safety of the wildlife), balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted.


Note: Guests are not permitted to pull items behind them. Any item that requires a Guest to pull it behind them, including a stroller, is not permitted into the Park.

That's good to know. We plan on bringing sandwiches with us this time. Last time we were at the parks we spent a small fortune on our meals. But then again, we're cheap! LOL!!!

The one exception I know of to that rule is that folks who have a medical necessity for a cooler are allowed to bring one in... so if you see one, don't assume the prohibition has changed.

I'm thinking that the official answer is "no", .
But I know that sometimes I see folk eating their own foods.
Now if security isn't letting those folk bring it in their backpacks, then I REALLY don't want to know where those folks are hiding the food to bring it in !

Okay, that clinches it for me. If I can't bring my balloon into AK, then I'm going someplace else for my vacation.

Thank you so much for all the advice! I remember when our girls were small (back in the early 80's) we were allowed to bring in "snacks", but not sanwiches. This time we'd like to bring sandwiches because we'll have our grandaughter along, so she won't be able to wait to get back to the campsite for a late lunch. This forum is invaluable!!

Shouldn't be a problem bringing them in, but not sure how long they'll last in June.

Might depend on how long you need to keep them cool. If it's only a few hours, you should be ok.

And the bonus is you should have some nice cold water to drink!

Ours have always done fine but we wrap the frozen water bottles (usually 4) and ham/cheese wraps together in a towel. Doing that, we've had to remember to take a least one out early and put it on the outside of the backpack so it will thaw.

There have been a few times when we were thristy but everything was frozen!

We take a collapsable cooler. We have done this everyday we go to the parks in 2001, 2002 and last June. We have a larger one and we also have small personal sized coolers and water bottles. We took sandwiches, snacks, cottage cheese, canned fruit, etc. The security guy once told me he gets hungry looking at everyones lunch.

But I thought coolers weren't allowed? We do have a polar bear one that holds a 12 pack...it's kind of big though. It's a soft sided cooler with shoulder strap [like a traveling bag]. I was pondering bringing it until I read that post taht said coolers weren't allowed.

Generally hard-side, or big honkin' coolers (like the ones on wheels) aren't allowed. They don't seem to have a problem with the small, soft-side type ones. You just have to open them up for security bag check.

We bring a small cooler strapped to the back of the ECV all the time. (Edit to say not on wheels but strapped to the back of the seat)
