My husband and I are having a discussion, trying to figure out if we can pack my son's Clear and Natural powdered Metamucil on the plane tomorrow? The entire container is too big to pack, but I wanted to put a few spoonfuls into a container. My husband says we can't do that because security won't know what it is. Who's correct? :confused3

We've packed it in our "checked bag" before - but kept it in the original container. If packed in a carry-on, you'll at least be able to speak with security if they ask you about it.

To be safe, I'd pack a little in both bags - in case you can't carry it on.

I also take Metamucil coarse milled and it comes in a hugh container. I took an empty benefiber container and filled it up. I put it in a ziplock bag in my carry on. The first time TSA took it out and asked "what is this", on the way home I put the zip lock bag in its own container on the security belt and no questions asked. I think its the powder concentration that they saw.

Yes, of course this is fine to put in your carry-on. It's very likely that you won't be asked about it, but if you are, it will only take a few seconds for TSA to take a look.

TSA is not drug enforcement. There is no rule about not being able to bring powdered drinks/supplements in your carry-on. Put it in whatever you feel comfortable carrying. Carry what you need for the first day or so and check the rest if you feel more comfortable. As said, you won't likely be asked about it if it is in your carry on.

Sounds like its not a liquid so TSA won't have an issue.

Powder is fine for carrying through security. A powder is not a liquid, gel or paste. You may be asked to explain what it is, if it is not in its original container.
