Can you book a 2 bedroom lock off and later cancel part of the room?

Mostly just thinking out loud, but I have adult children who can't plan too far in advance. I'm wondering if I could book a 2 bedroom lock off and then before the 30 day cancellation penalty, call and drop either the studio or one bedroom. I don't have anything specific in mind. I'm just thinking about long time/future trips.

But you could try booking a 1-BR and a studio, and then ask MS to mark them "travel together"....I did that one time and wound up with a 2-BR lockoff (didn't "need" it--the "extra" studio was for a friend, but it was a nice surprise)....I think it may be a few more points doing it that way, and of course it's not guaranteed that you'd get the studio next to the 1-BR, but it would give you the flexibility you're looking for if you're ok w/rooms close to each other but not just one villa....

That's a really good idea!

Just remember, booking a studio and a 1 bedroom will require more points than a 2 bedroom…

I called Member Services and asked this same exact question before our trip in March because we had some uncertainty and was told no, it was not possible. I didn't understand the big deal, open up a Studio for someone else to use, but oh well. We ended up using all the rooms anyway.

The problem, as I understand it, is what if someone is also looking for a two bedroom lock-off, or is on the waitlist for one. They should have priority over you trying to cancel just half. Now if you want to keep the one bedroom portion, and one is available for everyone to rent, you should be able to make the change by calling MS or using the Modify Reservation function online. But there have been reports of the online system not allowing such changes if the original reservation was made during the Home resort Priority window, so you'd need to call MS...again assuming a one bedroom is available.

I believe the issue is that you booked a 2BR, not a 1BR and a studio, even though you effectively "held" a 1BR and a studio out of inventory. This means that if someone wanted that 1BR (or studio) at the same time, they were blocked out. Booking a 2BR lock-off is not the same thing as saying "I'll book a studio, 1BR and 2BR and decide which one I really want when we are 31 days out". You are booking a 2BR. You do not get to jump to the front of the waitlist ahead of those who are waiting for 1BR's and studios just because you want to downsize. Otherwise, it would be the greatest idea ever for those who regularly travel with friends or extended family. Can you imagine how quickly the 2BR lock-offs would book up and how many 1BR's and studios would suddenly come available at 31 days?

(*for clarity, "you" is a generic term here and is not directed at anyone in particular :flower3: . I used the quotes only for reference:goodvibes)
