I just read the "Single Mom" thread to try and get some advice, but I need a bit more. My mother has cancelled out on our DVC trip. I has asked her to go because my DH can't. Well now it is just me and a 1 & 2 year old. I think that it would be a little too much trying to keep after both of them. Well I have asked friends (their vacations are booked), my sister (doesn't want to take her kids out of school). So unless I take my FIL I am on my own. Should I cancel or maybe just hang out at the pool and take a day or 2 in Fantasyland? Or am I crazy to even think about going? (My FIL is a nice man, I just don't know if I want to vacation alone with him.)

hard to say.........

I took a trip with 2 kids when DH couldn't go.....but they weren't in diapers. We had the best trip ever! (nothing against DH - it was just an awesome time) I think with 2 babies though, I'd scrap it and re-book.

I have been vacationing with my children by myself since they were 2 & 4 and we have always had a great time. My children are now 18 & 20, but when they were young I would just take it easy and set the pace around their needs, we always went back to our resort for afternoon naps and pool time, I cooked most of our meals in our resort kitchen (we used to stay at FW cabins before we bought DVC) and found it easier to eat at our cabin then pay high prices for restaurant meals that they hardly ate and they certainly did not want to sit still for, I always geared our park visits around what was suitable for their ages and we usually took at least 1 or 2 afternoons and evenings of down time and just hung out at our resort. We always got to see and do as much as we wanted it just was in smaller doses when they were young. Since you will be by yourself, I would suggest getting a rental car and taking your own stroller. It will be much easier than trying to wait for and board the buses with 2 little ones. Also, if you are flying, you definitely want your own stroller so that you can have it for when you are in the airport. Get a porter to help with your luggage while you push the stroller and you will be cruisin' man, cruisin'! I personally would not bag the trip, I think you will have a great time and be able to spend quality time with your children in the easiest vacation spot there is for single parents with children. I have vacationed solo with my children many places but WDW is the best, by far! If I had waited to travel alone with my children I would have missed out on many treasured memories of our vacations together when they were toddlers. I do not nor have I ever regretted taking my children on vacation by myself when they were very young.

I forgot another thing, do not pack massive amounts of diapers, formula, baby food etc. I made the mistake of doing this during a trip when my children were 11 months and 21 months (I was traveling with DH that time), it was such a waste. It is much easier to just buy what you need once you get to FL. They have all the same things available there at comparable prices, just make sure you don't go to Goodings! I have always found Publix to be very comparable to our grocery stores at home.

Thank you for all of the advice! Now if I can just get up the courage to go! (How am I going to leave my husband for sooo looongggg!) Everyone says that it will be good for us though! I really don't want to cancel the trip as I get 4 weeks of vacation and my husband only gets 1, so I need to get used to vacationing alone. I definately will have to rent the car. I didn't think about handling 2 kids and the stroller on the bus. Maybe I should just stay at a monorail resort since our main place will be the MK. Then I can just push them on and push them off.

Even though you will spend a lot of time at MK, you will be surprised at the amount of times you will want to go to the other parks and locations. Epcot for Illuminations, the Living Seas, the Land, the Viking ship playground in Norway & TOD parade, MGM for Bear in the Big Blue House, Little Mermaid, Fantasmic, Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground and the parade, AK for the Safari, animal trails, Rafiki's discovery planet, Dinosaur digsite/playground and the parade, DTD for the wonderful Lego store with areas outside where the children can play, the carousel and train ride, etc.
Having the larger DVC villa where the children can play and have room to stretch out, being able to fix easy kids meals that they will eat, and having a living room for Mom to relax in after the little ones are in bed will be well worth it. Trust me, I have been there, done that and it was fun! Don't worry, you will have a wonderful time and you and the children will be happy to see Daddy/DH when you return home with tales of a great WDW trip and a present or two for him!

Take the trip!!! I took my twin boys at just under 2 years old. DH doesn't fly and didn't really want to go. I rented a car, emerald club with national so I didn't have to wait. I also took my own double stroller and car seats. alot to carry, but thats the way it is with small kids. I sometimes feel like a bag lady!! Plan ahead and don't push to see everything. We had a great time even if it was alot of work. My boys enjoyed just playing at CBR playground. I sometimes thought I went all the way to Disney and they were happy to play at the park!! I wouldn't pass up a trip to disney - the memories are priceless and before you know it your kids are grown. My boys are 5 now and the baby is 18 monthes. Next trip is in November but Grandma is going along!!! I will say staying on the monarail is a big plus. We went last November and stayed at Poly. It was great for trips to MK which is the boys favorite park. Have a great time if you go.

Sometimes I think, as a mom of two littleones (just about 3 and 16 months) I can kick it into high gear and watch the two of them better than my husband and myself combined.

You didnt mention if you were flying..... To me that is the biggest obstacle to going it alone.... I dread dealing with the airports. securtiy, checking bags, etc with two kids alone.

If you go it slow.... you should be fine.... or maybe swicth to HH or VB?

Mine are two and three and we went in Feburary with Grandma and Grandpa and my husband and myself. I thought four adults with 2 children this age was about right.

You know your kids, though. My three year old is a runner. He will bolt away (and is almost faster and certainly can go farther than me). My two year old is tantrum prone and wants to be carried all the time. They were actually pretty happy in the double strollers, but there were plenty of times when carry was really the only option - end of the day when the stroller had been turned in, needed to get somewhere and child was on "toddler time." And only you know yourself.....if I have to spend three complete days alone with my children I am ready for the funny farm - not that I don't love them - but they really wear me out!
