Can you be on the waitlist 30 days from your arrival date?

I need help with this waitlist situation. I booked a trip for October (next month) back in April for BWV. I needed a studio for a Sun to Thurs. night. They only had Sun, Mon and Tues. night. I waitlisted for Wed. and Thurs. night. Got the Thurs night about a month later. Have been waiting since for the Wed. night. So, I have a room for Sun, Mon and Tues night, no where to stay Wed night, then have the room for Thurs. night.

I called MS today to check and it's still not available. I need to cancel the Thurs. night by this Friday, or I'm within my 30 days when the points go into holding.

In the meantime I got the $49 rate postcard for Pop Century, so booked a back up reservation there for Fri and Sat night. So, we COULD go Fri through Tues night, switching hotels part way through, rather than the previously planned Sun to Thurs night, all at Boardwalk. Not the best arrangement, but doable.

My question is, can I cancel the Thurs night, so I don't lose the points, and since it looks like I'll never get the Wed. Then go on the waitlist for the Wed AND Thurs, just in case someone else cancels? Since I don't have to cancel at Pop Century until 5 days out, I could cancel the Fri and Sat there.

I hope this makes sense!

It does make sense. You should be able to do it so that you only get the nights if both come through. Make sure to explain to MS what you want to do.

The waitlist would be in effect until 7 days before so that would work well with your PC reservation.

I guess if you waitlisted so you only got both days together (vs. day at a time) it would work.

I can tell you what I would do. I would cancel the isolated night. Wait list both together and book the backup. I bet the two will come through together. Then cancel the backup. that's the easy way. The less worry way.

If you have some cash you can check to see if you can book the unit for cash (it's different inventory so it may be available even if a points unit is not). You can then wait list to switch it to points. Ironically, though, the cash room you book may be the very one you would have gotten for points had you not booked it for cash. Because they switch units back and forth from cash to points inventory if they dont' book them.

Thanks everyone for your replies! Great ideas! I think I'll do exactly what you all suggested, cancel the lone Thurs. night, then waitlist for the Wed. and Thurs. night together. I didn't know the waitlist went until 7 days before, I thought once you were into the 30 days, no waitlist was available. So that's good to know.
