Can you add tickets & dining to the room discount?!

We currently have a package booked. I just called CRO & the CM I spoke to said that I could not apply the new room only discount against our package - I get that. So I asked if we could book a new room reservation with the discount and add tickets and dining. He said no, that we would essentially have a package again and he wouldn't do that. Is he right?! I thought I'd read posts on here by people doing exactly that.
He told me that our current free dining pin is one of the best values we could get (almost in a scolding tone) and I said not really since the room we want is MK view at the Poly.
Anyone know if he's wrong about adding tickets & dining?

I don't know the official "rules" but I priced out the room only discount and added tickets and the dining plan online. It was not a better deal for us so I will probably stick with the free dining

Call back and talk to another CM. Room-only codes can almost always be turned into packages. This discount just applies to the room portion. Some CM just don't know how to do it.

I just called back and I'm pretty sure I got the same CM, so I hung up! What are the odds of that?! Trying again ...

Definetely call back. I did it this morning. At first my CM said it couldn't be done, then I gave her the room only code and she was able do do it. I upgraded to Club level and still saved $100.

Yes, they can do it if it's applicable at your resort. It's easier to do it with a new reservations...just pull down from the menu box. To apply it to an existing reservation a CM told me this morning she was just handed a list of the codes...a different code based on everything (Example Room Only Discount, with Reg Dining has a different one then Deluxe Dining, etc.) She had to do some figuring out which one would apply....so it can be done if the resort is included

ok, I give up!
After three phone calls, the CM, who was willing to apply the discount to our package told me it would actually cost us more than our current free dining pin. I'm not sure why, since a decent room discount on a MK view room at Poly should be more of a savings than free dining (for our family of five). When I priced it through Disney's website it would have been $68 cheaper. Not really worth the hassle, but for my sister & BIL, who are travelling with us the Disney site quoted them a $500 savings over FD. Unfortunately the CM told me it would cost them the same as the price she quoted me?!
None of this makes sense.
I'm tired of dealing with CM's who seem tired of trying to apply all of the codes that are flying around right now and don't seem to give a crap.
