Can you add 1 person to your party even if no park reservations are available?

Don't wait for availability to show up on the calendars. Just keep checking regularly. Many of us have seen spots open and successfully booked reservations on grayed out days. Park hopping after 2pm might work as well, if you can snag another park, but unfortunately that prevents you from continuing to check availability at your preferred park.

It doesn't hurt to ask at guest services as well. We were told they would be able to add my niece to our park days when she had ticket issues that could not be resolved in advance; however, we didn't trust it and bought an extra ticket just to be sure we could book her park days before they filled. I have not heard of many reports either way.

Do we know the dates you are going? I didn’t see it posted and it’s late so I may have missed it. If it’s May there a LOT of AP spots and people are saying they may scoot some over to the ticket/resort buckets as the dates get closer and I know we have seen that in the past. The other thing is that we have a Saturday in May at HS that we most likely will cancel and I’m not sure how fast the spots will “show up” in MDE but I could let you know when we cancel our date if it’s the one you need.

Not the perfect solution, but get park hoppers so that you can all be together after 2pm. Better than nothing.
Do "park hoppers" work the same right now? I thought you had to go to your first park before 2pm to be allowed to PH to other parks. Is this not how it works? I did PH a couple of weeks ago, but i checked into my first park @ rope drop then hopped to HS (which had no reservations available for that particular park day).

You don’t have to go to your first park before 2pm but you do have to go to that park before you can hop (and hopping doesn’t start until 2). So if you have a MK reservation you could go there at 3 and then hop to Epcot, for example.

Right. PH starts @ 2pm. but you can't hop until after you go to your park reservation. I know how it works. LIke I said, we park hopped March. I personally would not wait until late in the afternoon to visit my park reservation just to PH but to each their own.

HS and AK were sold out the week we were there but we had no problem gaining entry after 2pm.

Wow some of the replies here are just wow! I was just wondering about other people's experiences. If you look at my signature, you will see I'm not a Disney novice. I realize they can't pixie dust everyone. I'm hoping I can get her in the park with us but I also realize it may not happen. If someone were to say " yes they let us add someone", it would give me a little hope. Luckily we noticed that the parks were booking up really fast & made our reservations at 10pm at night, not knowing if she'd be able to go until we talked to her the next day. The next day she said she could go, and the reservations were all gone.
Appreciate you saying you don’t expect pixie dust. My comment which on made you angry by your angry face on it was directed at people who say go to guest services. Those replies are daily occurrences- someone on another thread today said it would be un- Disney like if they did not do something. I did not mean to offend you. Just tired of those always directing people to guest services when things don’t happen.

What others have done in past has nothing to do with what you might be able to do. Guest services can’t magically make reservations appear. You need to find a reservation on your own like everyone else or park hop. Disney can’t pixie dust everyone and imagine if everyone who couldn’t get reservations asked.
Next time just skip the thread.

I'm sorry that these boards bring out the insanity of some ppl. You, nor anyone else on this board is stupid. Just as with everything else on this board; what was so yesterday may be completely changed at any time. We come here to give our experiences and we're all able to take those experiences with different levels of expectation...no one on here nor did you state/ask for a guarantee of what may/may not work out.

Good luck to you OP and pls don't let rude typist scare you away or get you down :)

I hope you have success and are able to have your whole party go. I'd work up some sort of Plan B (just in case) which it sounds like you are already doing. Maybe if things keep going well COVID-19 wise (lower numbers, fewer hospitalizations, more vaccinations), capacity will increase at the parks making getting that extra ticket easier.

Not for the parks, but one time I had reservations for a party of 10 to go to a sold out Hoop de Doo review, and then a cousin I wasn't expecting joined us for the vacation. I decided to have all eleven of us go over and that I would be the one to skip and meet others after if only 10 could go. To our surprise, another party of 11 who were to be seated right in the same section we were in had one person who couldn't go and only had 10, so Disney just swapped the tables for our two parties. We bought the extra ticket and the other family even got their money back (win, win, for all). I will say, though, for sold out Christmas parties I have never been able to get an extra person in.

Your post and other similar posts helped me make the decision for our trip in March 2022 to reserve in advance for everyone who might go. So I do want to thank you for sharing your experience as it does help others.

Hearing about all the issues people were having getting reservations, I went ahead and bought tickets and made reservations for everyone in our party who plans to go (even though there is the possibility that two might not be able to -- school schedule for one unknown / 85 year old parent will probably feel up to the trip, but could change mind). I figure it will be easier to cancel last minute than add last minute. (A reason that I can do this is that you can change the name on an unused ticket, and with family in the area and the fact that we go down every year or every other year, there is no question that tickets will be able to be used at some point.). Also, for Disney, these are just two day tickets -- much less of a commitment than someone doing a longer stay. All someone would need to do is to twist my little pinky and I'd be up to do a mini trip to use extra two day Disney tickets and do a mini get-away weekend or something like that and get to visit family too.

I hope you and your family have a great trip no matter what.

Yep perfect description for me too. Decreases the value of annual pass for locals. I wish they had limited the system to 4 instead of just 3 advance calendar days. Last time I checked WDW had 4 theme parks...

It should have been 4 at the very least. It wrecked the value for those of us who are out of state as well. Taking the kids next week and they have tickets and 6 days of reservations, yet myself and my bf only have 3 days reserved and now the second half of our trip is full for AP holders. Hoping things will open up but it’s ridiculous to me that we’d have to have paid 2-3x more for a hotel on site just to use 3 more days on our pass.

Thanks for apologizing. I'm probably extra sensitive because we just moved her down there & won't see her again until our trip. I just want our whole family together at Disney, it's bad enough she won't be able to go during the week. This empty nest thing is HARD.

I wouldn’t either. I was specifically responding to this 👇part of your post and just wanted to clarify that being in the first (reserved) park before 2 is not required.

I thought you had to go to your first park before 2pm to be allowed to PH to other parks.
