Going solo for the first part of my upcoming trip and am toying with the idea of going over to the WWoHP for a day. Is it worth $85 for one day? Is there that much to see & do? It would cost me $85 for the ticket, plus a Mears transportation to/from the park, as I am not renting a car.

You can see and do everything in WWoHP in a couple of hours. A little longer on a busy day. It is not a full-day experience or anything close to it and even a half day would probably be too much time there.

However, there are plenty of other things to see and do in the park.

WWoHP has three rides: the signature Forbidden Journey (a one-of-a-kind half-simulator, half-dark-ride), Dragon Challenge (a dual-track inverted thrill coaster), and Flight of the Hippogriff (a kiddie coaster).

It also has three shows: Ollivander's (a mildly entertaining show recreating the scene in HPatSS where Harry gets his wand), a small minishow with the Frog Choir, and another small show with the Beaxbatons and Durmstrangs doing their intro scene from HPatGoF.

There is one CS restaurant, the Three Broomsticks. There are also 3-5 stores (depending on how you want to count them) themed after shops from the movies.

On a slow day, all of it can be done in 2-4 hours, depending on your pace. Whether or not it is worth it us up to you. nytimez is right: the rest of IoA is pretty good too. ;)

The Universal Island's of Adventure Theme park has 5 "Islands" and WWoHP is one of those Islands. The previous post stated about half a day to really take your time in that area of Islands of Adventure, which should be plenty. The wait times for the rides can get a bit lengthy ( we waited 25 minutes for the Forbidden Journey, 20 minutes for the Hippogriff, and 60 minutes for Olivander's Wand shop showing - which was worth it since my son was chosen to receive the wand during the show!). Other Islands of Adventure favorites are the water rides on a hot day - You will get soaked on RipSaw! The 8th Voyage of Sindbad show was also very good. Jurassic Park water ride was great too. The park has much to do for the day to make the $85 fee worth it, in my opinion. We visited on a Friday in June as spent the entire day. Going back into WW0HP in the evening was cool - much different than in bright daylight. Have fun!

i hope you stopped and spent time at the Mystic Fountain.......
it is such a hoot....

last year i sat on the stones along the side of the fountain for over an hour.
he had quite the audience ......

a lot of the stuff the fountain "says" goes over the kids' heads...

try the single file line next time you do FJ.
even if you are with your family, you won't be far apart to fill in seats.

i found it was not easy at all to talk to the person next to me once the ride started.

I think if you're planning to head to IOA you should plan to spend the whole day there to get your money's worth. As mentioned, WWoHP can be done in a few hours but you may not be able to just walk right into the area, depending on the time of your visit. During busy seasons they give you a pass to get in at a certain time so the streets aren't too crowded. It's really a very small area, so they do what they can to keep it from being completely jammed. So you might end up waiting a bit just to get into the Wizarding World. If you show up with the idea that you'll be there all day and enjoy some other attractions, though, it's a great way to spend the day.
