Okay ... thought I'd ask this here to get everyone's opinion/experience.

My hubby, our 3 boys and I are heading to WDW on Sunday and staying at the Polynesian. Can't WAIT! This year, my friend who lives in Daytona Beach, FL is coming down to join us and is staying at the Yacht Club Wednesday - Sunday. We plan on heading over there to see her on Thursday, do the morning at Animal Kingdom and then back to her place for a late lunch and swimming.

My question is two-fold. I've never "pool hopped" or considered it because we stay at the Poly and the pool there is wonderful.

However, my husband read a few threads and told me at dinner last night "I don't know if we can let the kids swim at the Yacht Club because they don't allow other people to use it". So ... here's my question.

1.Is that the case if we are actually THERE visiting someone who is staying on site at the Yacht Club?

2. If it is the case ... then if we show them that we are stying at the Polynesian (a comparably priced resort) would that be considered somewhat okay since we're there with someone who has a room there as well as we're not staying at one of the Value Resorts and trying to get a better pool because of it.

I've read a ton of threads here about all of the Polynesian pool hopping (guess I've been oblivious! <G>)!

And finally ... should I have the Polynesian front desk maybe help us out and call over to The Yacht Club and ask for permission. We'd only be doing it for one day ... and certainly don't want to have the kids uneasy that there may be a problem.

I look forward to hearing your replies and experiences.

Thanks!! :)

I'd like to know as well as I have family staying at the BC the same time we're staying at AKL - and I know my daughter will be upset if she's not able to swim with her cousin!

I think that everyone entering the pool area must show their room ID. I would check at the front desk at YC -- maybe they are able to provide you with a "pass" to the pool area. Worst case scenario, they will tell you "no". Having your own front desk call over to YC and ask the question before you go is a great idea. If you're not able to swim together, at least you won't waste your time getting all of your swim gear together.

I have had family visit us at the Yacht Club. I met them in the lobby and walked through together. I have often gone to the pool with just my immediate family and one id, with the rest of the id's in the room. Its never been an issue.

I believe that the YC & BC have become strict regarding Stromalong Bay. Everyone entering the pool area must have a resort ID.

The past few times we've been there they've asked for ID's and issued wristbands. We've seen quite a few turned away.

They do this for a reason. It's not to be mean and nasty. it's because the pool gets over crowded, and there's often not enough room for those paying to stay there.

You're talking about adding another five bodies to what's often already overcrowded. Very unfair to paying guests of that resort.

It seems to me that you'd be better off trying to get permission for your single friend to go to the Polynesian pool with you, rather than bring five additional bodies into SAB.

Why not either all go to a waterpark, or find another activity you can do together--rent Watermice maybe?

I was staying at the YC in August and our friend at the WL. I checked and they said it was fine for them to come in with us. We went down told them they were with us and no problems at all. They seemed fine with a family going in together, otherwise how would we hang out together? As long as you don't try to pull a fast one and let them know I think you'll be fine. My experiance was great but you know what they say, Your Mileage may vary!!

We've been staying there for 6 years and I have seen it work different ways. If it is not a busy time of year I think they would let you. However, we always go around and including Memorial Day weekend as one of our trips. During that weekend they not only require everyone to have hotel i.d. but they walked around to all the sunbathers and asked to see their hotel i.d. Many folks were asked to leave.
I think your idea of talking to the Poly folks is a good one.

Good Luck

When we were there in October, they were checking id for everyone and issuing wrist bands, just as the other posts have said. I also saw them turn away many people, and ask people without wrist bands to leave...And the pool was not that crowded then. As a guest of the yacht club, I will say I was appreciative that they were doing that.

Personally I think it's wrong to put the Polynesian desk staff in that position. If I were one of them, i would find it very uncomfortable if the SAB folks said no.

IMHO if you want to ask, do it yourself. Don't ask the staff to do your "dirty work" for you.

All you have to do is pick up your room phone, and hit "0". Then ask the operator to connect you with the BC Recreation Department. These are the lifeguards and pool managers. They have the ultimate say over who can swim there (not the front desk people!).

Both times I've stayed at the Yacht and Beach Blub, I've been asked for an ID for everyone in my family. We've been issued wrist bands and then allowed in. I personally saw many people being asked to leave because they didn't have proper identification.

All adults in my party were asked for individual resort ID's - the kids were not but they are only 4 and <1yr old

The point being that one ID was not enough - they needed to see all three in our case - I will state though that another time we were only asked for one and another time there was no one there to get a wristband from at either the BC or YC entrance

thanks

When we stayed at the YC in mid-May 2002 we had to show IDs for each member and got wristbands even though the weather was cool for the time of year and the pool wasn't crowded at all.

The bottom line is I think there's a chance that you may be able to swim at SAB as a guest of someone staying at the resort, but I think the odds are more likely than not that you'll be told "no". Particularly given past experiences of others and the fact that we're now into "spring break" season and the odds of a nearly empty SAB that they just wave you into isn't very likely.

Thanks to so many of you for just sharing with me what you experienced.

For the one person, who thinks I'm trying to have someone do my "dirty work" for me ... the Concierge is usually extremely accommodating and I was hardly trying to "get away" with something. If you read other posts it seems the Polynesian (our home pool) has a TON of people that head there every day that are not paying $500+ per night as we are. I was merely looking for a general consensus as to what everyone has found.

Thanks to the majority of you who were so helpful and friendly with your replies! I appreciate it!

You said "Front Desk". Now you are chaging the story to concierge. And BTW--two wrongs dont make a right as far as pool hopping goes...

DH and I stayed at BCV in early July. Each time we went, there was a CM stationed at every entrance looking at room IDs and issuing wristbands. The first time, we only brought DH's and I had to go back and get mine. We didn't make that mistake again.
We also saw CMs going around and asking people who did not have wristbands to show their ID. Several left.

Technically, only registered guests of the YC/BC may use SAB. As you've heard, sometimes people make it in who are not registered guests. If you're comfortable with the possibility of being asked to leave by a CM checking wristbands ( may or may not happen ) then give it a shot. If you're uncomfortable with the idea of being tossed from the pool area, then you may not want to do this. Good luck!

My sister stayed at the BC last year, while I stayed at the All Stars. We wanted the kids to swim together one day, so I met them in the room and we all went down together and swam the whole day there. No one ever questioned us or asked for our ID's or room key. That was last May, and it was in the middle of the afternoon. I say go for it, all they can say is no!!

We stayed at BCV last June and were asked everytime we went to the pool to show our three IDs to get the wristband.

You will not be able to pool hop. They check resort ID's and issue wristbands. No wristband and you will be asked to leave. The pool is reserved for guests who are actually staying at that particular resort (and rightly so). Perhaps you could switch resorts so that you are all at the same place.
