Can we talk honestly if I'll be able to ride TRON on our April trip -and a few other questions I have...we're staying off-site

DH and I are visiting Cocoa Beach in April for a week and have decided to visit WDW on 2 different days...we have APs and DVC and have always stayed on site and benefitted from those perks...

Obviously things will be different in April and I wanted to have some realistic conversations on what we think we will be able to actually do...and how the process works for staying off-site.

My plan was to go to MK 1 day (and ride Tron) and HS/Epcot the next visit and do Star Wars and Rat and I'm willing to buy Genie+ and spend $$ on LL+ rides ..but I've been thinking and I don't think riding Tron @ MK will be realistic..

We've never been in the parks right when a ride was released and when we did visit I was able to easily pay our way onto a ride since we stayed on site and could get that ride at 7am but staying off-site I'm restricted to buying that when the park opens, right?

How do you think the ability to ride Tron when it opens? Will there even be a chance for us to ride if since we're off-site?

I'm thinking that maybe we should just visit AK and perhaps do a special tour like visiting the Rhinos and at Epcot do Behind the Seeds....

and even though I'm super stoked about riding Tron, my DH is not as thrilled...we went on GOTG in October and he thought he was going to die and rode the entire ride with his eyes closed - in his defense he gets motion sick on virtual rides and I wanted to be surprised on the ride so I did NO background research on what the ride was actually like - which brings me to the fact he still thinks I tried to kill him that day by tricking him onto that ride...:rolleyes2

However, I'm glad to report that he did not die that day, nor did he get motion sick but he has vowed to never ever ride it again..and is weary about Tron..

So..anyone have any thoughts on our probability of riding Tron or do I just wait and save it for another trip when we're on-site?

Hard question to answer, it's a roll your dice and take your chances type of thing. Will it open on time? If it does, will be down a lot like other new rides (RoTR I'm looking at you)? No way to know.

I'm assuming since you are DVC and have an AP you go often. My first inclination would be to wait until the kinks are worked out. There is always next trip.

And I feel for your husband. I also rode GOTG with my eyes closed for 3/4 of the ride and I knew what it was about. It was, most likely, a one and done for me. I just don't see any reason to ride something that I have to keep my eyes closed for and the entire time am just waiting for it to end. I can't even tell you what song was playing I was so miserable and tense just wanting it to end. I had to sit under a tree and sip on water for a half hour after just to be able to go about the rest of my day. I'm not sure if I'll attempt Tron or not. I think the screens were what got me with GOTG, so a "regular" roller coaster might not be an issue. How does he do on RNRC, it goes upside down so that might be a gage. I don't ride it any more but only because it tosses my poor head and neck around so much I get off with a headache. I'm small and can't brace my head in the head rests.

The reason Rise has those reliability issues is because it utilizes several different very complicated ride systems. Tron is a cloned coaster that is far less complex. I would not expect it to have nearly the same problems. The worst I would worry about would be weather related closures, since part of the track is outside.

None of us can tell you how long the wait might be months in advance on a new MK ride that has yet to open. Clearly, new rides generate a LOT of interest when they first open so even with one of the paid options, you might not be successful. Even if this is a clone of an existing ride at one of their international parks, there still could be issues debugging that ride at a new location. Also not clear if the daily capacity will be sufficient since MK has way more visitors then Disney international parks.

You can probably find some online videos of the international ride if you or your husband have concerns about being motion sick on this ride.

I guess my actual question, which I failed to actually ask.. :rolleyes1 was how do you think they'll have the opportunity to ride Tron be at first?

Like will it be like Star Wars and it was either stand in line or pay to ride but most/all of the pay to ride times were booked by on-site guests first, meaning us off-site folks would have to stand in line (which we'll just pass on for now) or will it be like GOTG where you can get a virtual line and I might have a chance to ride?

And perhaps I'm confused but staying off-site I can't purchase or reserve anything at 7am, right? I have to wait until the park opens?

Thanks!

I think they’ll have a virtual que and individual lightning lanes available, like Guardians did. Probably no standby line for quite a while.
