Can we talk coffee?

I realize this may be a strange topic for the theme park strategy forum. My husband and inlaws are major coffee addicts. I have visions of their coffee needs getting in the way of our day getting started on time. My crystal ball is showing me crowds of people passing us by at rope drop as we hunt down palatable coffee.

So, here are my questions. We're going to need a coffee fix to keep everyone happy. Do you all buy in the park? If so, where and are there long lines? Or is it better to make it in the room? I don't see them liking that (we're from Seattle and love AWESOME coffee) but we're going to need a coffee strategy to keep our theme park game plan on track. Any ideas appreciated!

Disney only sells Nescafe products, so if you are looking for good coffee bring a pot for your room and make it before you leave:thumbsup2

I am a coffee hound. One of my only complaints about DW is that the coffee in the parks is very bad. It's basically instant that they pour into dispensers. :scared:

There is a vendor in Epcot that sells a latte that is drinkable. Not great. I make a pot before I leave and carry a travel mug to the parks.

The only thing I can suggest is the Kona Island at the Polynesian Resort-OR- the Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney.
--Just 2 tips...according to All Ears, they said that the Kona Island is open all day!!
--the polynesian offers a great relaxing view.

I'm a total coffee addict as well, and I like GOOD coffee (used to be strictly Starbucks, but I've found a Trader Joe's blend I love that costs 1/2 as much!). First, make sure your husband and in-laws know that they will NOT get a good cup of coffee at Disney unless they bring their own and make it in the room. Establish those ground rules and make them tell you, "Yes, I understand. No good coffee at Disney World unless I bring my own and make it in the room." Second, make them understand that a bad cup of coffee at Disney World tastes better than a good cup of coffee at work. :)

I guess I will be making mine in the room then. What size filters will I need to bring to use the in-room coffee maker? I'm thinking it's probably the 4-6 cup size. We're staying at POFQ if that makes a difference. TIA.

There is also a coffee cart outside of AK that had decent coffee.

See if your resort has in-room coffee makers with the little coffee packets that you use in the maker. I would presume that the in-room coffee at WDW would be different (and probably better) than the instant stuff. If you were to bring your own, you may need to bring your own little filters.

...Second, make them understand that a bad cup of coffee at Disney World tastes better than a good cup of coffee at work. :)

That's exactly right!! :) :)

Coffee is the only real complaint I have about being at Disney. Awful nescafe instant coffee is everywhere!!! I take my own coffee pot and brew my own in the morning. I take the Dixie disposable cups with lids and take it to the parks with me in the morning. Later in the day I try to find good coffe in the parks to make it thru the day. Disney is missing out on the great coffee business!!!

Harborchick - Are you staying onsite or off?

If onsite you can brew your own "real" coffee (bring regular size or smaller basket filters) in the 4 cup coffee maker in the rooms. (I think all rooms have coffee makers.) 4 cups = 1 "large" mug for serious drinkers. Every coffee maker I've used at a disney hotel took forever to brew 4 cups of "real" coffee.

If offsite, there are several starbucks near WDW but not in it. The starbucks site can give those addresses. I'll bet there are other coffee stores nearby as well.

Your family will probably find the counter service or restaurat served coffee within each theme park pretty unsatisfactory. There are, however, stands brew specialty coffees (Espresso, cappuccino and perhaps a full cup) but you are paying a premium.

I brewed my own in the hotel room.

Ladies and Gentlemen....you can see from my tag I am SERIOUS about my coffee. Everyone is dead on when they say coffee inside Disney stinks. But I hate the stuff available in the rooms even more. I usually get a iced mocha before I leave the park to have for breakfast the next day or I tote my espresso machine from home..............otherwise I am a cranky crab......even in the Wonderful World of Disney!

The coffee in the food courts is instant nescafe coffee. It is in a dispenser that is mixed with hot water. I don't even call it coffee.

Seattle coffee addict here...so I understand.

What I do is take a manual drip

filters
ground coffee
brown sugar in a small container
travel mugs.
I buy milk in the store at the resort.

If I'm at a place that I KNOW has a coffee pot, I'll heat water up there, if I'm unsure, I bring a hotpot.

I bring the manual drip and filters because I'm not going to assume that I bring the right filters for whatever coffee maker they have there.

Can I suggest the Frozen Cappuccino Freeze drink at MK? Does that constitute as coffee? If not, it's sure yummy. :cloud9:

The Kona Pressed Coffee at the Poly, will get your day started off right.

At Epcot, you can get good espresso at the stand in Italy or at the Tangierine in Morroco. At AK, you used to be able to get real espresso at the CS place in Africa, but I'm not sure what the status is because I thought they changed to a TS restaurant or something.

But yeah, the Nescafe they sell all over the parks is horrible. Universal gets the checkmark when it comes to coffee with a real Starbucks in the parks and at City Walk.
