First, I love that there is so much more quality content with solid female leads!
I love Gilmore Girls, Dead to me, Russian Doll, Killing Eve, Queens Gambit, Lost Girls ... countless stories and more recently adore True Detective and Red Queen because they bring the female vibe to the story in uniquely feminine ways without being trite, even Murders only in the building has a solid contribution from female artists along side guys.
But also, there is a lot of junk. What I DO NOT LOVE is this halfassed lazy no effort in the story other than to drop people with ladyparts into stuff just to have a non male in the show. What is that? Businesses can't be bothered with quality so shoving a woman onto a pile of crap script is supposed to curry favor? Is this just to offload piles of garbage scripts in inventory? Seems this is going on with remakes where someone decided, "I got it we can just put someone on the diversity list into the lead and noone will notice how bad it is." What else can it be to explain all the junk?
I can see there is an attempt to balance things out but there should be real effort, I guess is the point. I mean Star Wars has been a ghastly mess, like what happened? I am a woman, I LOVE Star Wars, couldn't a fan have been found? I exist, I promise there are other female fans who exist who could have have managed inclusion without veering off.
