I'm curious if we can rent a car in the GTA and drive to the States? I have no idea how economical this would be though and would have to research it. But is it even possible?
Yes, it's very possible. People do this all the time. I did it last year... flew Halifax to Ottawa, then rented a car to drive down to a family reunion in New York, Thousand Islands area.
What you can't do, as a Canadian resident, is rent a car in the U.S. and then drive it into Canada.
Thanks for the information! It would probably cost too much, but I am curious. I'll phone around this week and see what it would cost to rent a car for the week with the intention of driving to Florida & back.
My mom might be inviting our daughter to go with them to Cuba during March break week. Might - still not definate. But of course I immediately started wondering about a trip to Disney with our son & priced it out. Airfare blew that out of the water pretty darn quick! Cheapest I can find will have us driving 5 hours to Long Island, New York and spend $900 to fly to MCO and back.
While my husband would not mind if we drove to Florida (actually, we both think it would be fun in warmer months), I don't think he really wants to put milage on the van.
He mentioned the rental as an option so I figured I would get a price anyways.
You may be better off going to the states by bus and renting a car there. Only a few of the rental companies in Canada will let you take a car into the US and even then it can be expensive.
