Can we link a reservation but not do DDP the whole time?

I'm hoping to book a 1 br for a Sat. night for my family w/o the DDP and then stay for 5 nights in a 2 br (sun-thur) with the DDP after more family fly in on Sunday.

Is it possible to book 2 reservations (1 night in 1br and then 5 nights in 2 br) and have them linked to try and give us the possibility of not having to move but only do the DDP for the final 5 nights when everyone will be there?

Or, do I need to not link the reservations in order to be able to do this?

I hope my question is clear.

You don't really have to link the reservations. You can just mention it at checkin. let them know that you're only doing 1 night in the 1 bdr and see if they can give you a lockout. The reason you don't want to link them is you would have to get the DDP for the whole stay. We tried this back in Dec, but they didn't have any lockouts available

If you are staying in a one bedroom that is connected to a studio and moving to a two bedroom lockoff for the second part of your stay, you can request to stay in the same one bedroom portion, but you need it on both of your reservations. It will be two separate reservations and you will have to check out and check back in again. And it isn't guaranteed that you won't have to move. You need to ask when you check in if you are blocked into the same room for the second half of your stay.

Since they are two different types of rooms, they cannot be linked, but you can have them noted on each reservation.

And, yes, you should be able to get the DDP for one reservation or the other. If you choose the two bedroom reservation, everyone on the reservation will have to have the DDP for the entire length of that stay.

We did this (without the DDP because it didn't exist) a couple of years ago at OKW.

As noted, you can't link two reservations with different room types - but I would make a request thru MS to be able to stay in the same 1BR for the whole stay and add a lock-off studio for the 2BR part of the stay. They cannot link this, but will note it as a request. At check-in you can again request to be able to keep the same 1BR for the whole stay. They may not guarantee this for you - even at check-in. I'd also go to the desk on change day and again make the request.

Regardless, none of this should affect having the DDP since the reservations won't technically be linked together anyway.

Enjoy! :)

I know there is no guarantee we won't have to move into another room but it's worth a shot. I guess I'll just request this at check-in. I understand we'll have to check-in again on the second day regardless of if we have to move or not.

We want the DDP when the whole group is there but don't want to have to pay for people on the DDP on the day they aren't there.

We have done exactly what you are suggesting, and we did get to stay in the same 1 bedroom portion. The key at OKW is to make sure your reservation is for a lock off though when you have the 2 bedroom. OKW is very good at trying to keep you in the same room.

While it doesn't apply in your case since you have two different room types, in case others are wondering....

If you link two reservations, it is treated as a single reservation, and if you get the DDP, it must be for the entire combined reservation. You cannot get it for just one of the linked parts.

Just FYI

We are switching from a 1br to a 2br in AKV. Is there a good chance that they will just be able to give us the studio next door? That would be so great considering that we already will have moved one time on that trip. Also, if that were to happen, would they clean they 1br as well considering that it would have happened if we moved to another room. I would like clean sheets, towels, new toiletries, etc . Thanks!

I don't know what the chance are, all you can do is ask at checkin. And yes the rooms would be cleaned. You may even have to take your things with you
